A very talented one Pokémon fan recently shared his own custom Ho-Oh sculpture made from over 3,000 LEGO bricks. While officially Pokémon LEGO sets are coming soon, fan creations like these continue to show the deep passion fans already have for these beloved brands.
A legendary fire/flying type Pokémon, Ho-Oh was the very first Gen 2 monster ever revealed. All the way back in August 1996, Japanese magazine CoroCoro gave fans their very first look at Ho-Oh, although Ho-Oh would not be introduced to the masses until Pokemon Goldwas released in 1999, with the legendary bird gracing the front of the Game Boy Color title.
Pokemon Fan Builds Awesome LEGO Ho-Oh Model Ahead Of Official Pokemon LEGO Set Reveal
On November 25th, Reddit user TheOfficialGarf posted a set of images to the r/pokemon subreddit showing off an incredibly detailed sculpture of Ho-Oh made from around 3,500 LEGO bricks, which, according to TheOfficialGarf's comments on the post, cost around $500 CAD. In the Reddit post, TheOfficialGarf included an image of the sprite (similar to the Gen 3 version) they used for inspiration, giving context to how well they've managed to capture the legendary Pokemon's likeness.
To bring the virtual creature to life, TheOfficialGarf first created the model in BrickLink Studio and downloaded the parts list directly from the app. The talented fan then transferred that parts list to LEGO's “Pick a Brick” site, where every single piece needed was added to the cart. According to TheOfficialGarf's response to the post, the process of designing this model from scratch, purchasing the pieces, and building the model without official instructions took a total of about four months.
Although Ho-Oh may not be the most iconic Legendary Pokémon, especially for newer fans who may not have played Pokemon Gold or its Nintendo DS remake, its meaning i Pokémon history should not be easily overlooked or forgotten. Ho-Oh has appeared in each Pokémon generation since its Gen 2 debut, although it can sometimes only be obtained through special events or trade. Ho-Oh's latest appearance was in Pokemon Scarlet and Violets DLC, where players can use a Ho-Oh Treat from Snacksworth to face the creature. While it may come to the game via updates and post-launch events, Ho-Oh is currently not available in Pokemon Legends: ZA.
The LEGO community has spent decades creating masterpieces PokémonThemed MOCs, with that being the only way they could merge their love for the two franchises. But in just a few months, everything will change. Back in March of this year, LEGO announced that it is entering into a partnership with The Pokemon Company to produce official sets based on the nearly 30-year-old franchise. Despite that announcement eight months ago, and the first wave set to land sometime in 2026, neither LEGO nor Pokemon have revealed any upcoming sets.
That said, there have been a few leaks that may shed some light on what fans can expect from the upcoming LEGO x Pokémon cooperation. According to SKU leaks, there could be a total of 23 pieces Pokémon LEGO sets will be released in 2026, with five reportedly releasing between February and March 2026. Of these five, LEGO is rumored to Pokémon sets, four have been rated 18+, which is usually reserved for LEGO sets aimed at an adult demographic, often with more complex building techniques.
According to leaks, one of these 18+ sets could be a brick-built Pikachu and Pokeball that contains just over 2,000 pieces and retails for $200. The largest set is rumored to appear in LEGO and Pokémons first wave, and the most recent leak, is a gigantic 6,838-piece set that allegedly features Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, which could cost $649.99.
