Pokemon's Rumored Switch 2 Plans Feel Like History Repeating Itself

Pokemon Legends: ZA's latest leak could point to the series continuing a new trend with the launch of Nintendo Switch 2.

Reddit user RoyalCities shared photos of Pokémon card set they picked up with old artwork by Ken Sugimori. The Pokémon the card set was a little confusing to the OP, as they weren't sure what they had at first. While some of the cards are simple illustrations of iconic pocket monsters, a number of them feature surprisingly violent artwork of various Pokemon pulverizing each other. For example, Ditto is abused by both Krabby and Kingler, who respectively stretch out and squeeze the Pokémon. Psyduck is bullied by Tangela and Tauros, while Exeggutor is seen stomping on Diglett.

The origin of the Pokemon Card is explained

It turns out that these are Pokémon cards from the Carddass line. The cards date back to 1996, before dating Pokemon Trading Card Gamewith a card released for each of the original 151 Pokémon. Many fans were surprised to learn about these cards, not only did they not know there was a card series before Pokemon TCGbut also because much of this artwork has rarely been seen elsewhere. One of the other interesting parts of the artwork is that this series is so early that it has some of the original designs of Pokémon, like Charmander having visible back spikes, that only appeared in the Gen 1 games.

While the exact value of this Pokémon the card set is not known, it is an interesting piece Pokémon story that is exciting for fans to discover all these years later. Colleague Pokémon fans seem to be particularly enthusiastic about the attacks shown on the cards, which outside of the anime, manga and Pokémon fan animations, battles have never been depicted quite like this. To this day, Pokémon battles usually consist of a Pokémon making a move and its opponent being hit by it, rather than the two physically interacting as seen here. While it would be extremely difficult to create complex animations for attack interactions between all possible Pokémon, this artwork gives a glimpse of what it might be like.
