Pokemon Ascended Heroes will cost $10,000 to purchase each card

The Pokemon TCG can be a very expensive hobby, especially if you want to keep up to date with new sets. Even if you're not after Logan Paul-grade Pikachu cards, getting every card in a set can easily cost you thousands, and that's if you manage to get everything you want from bargain packs. Unfortunately, that is not always a possibility.

Thankfully, there are places you can buy singles from, but the newest Pokemon TCG set – Ascended Heroes – has proven to be extremely expensive, even by the high standards set by previous expansions. If you plan to try all 295 different cards of the set as a single, then be prepared to part with close to $10,000.

Mega Gangs

This was calculated by Wargamer, who used the popular Collectr app to rate each card from the Ascended Heroes set. If you want all the standard reverse holo and chase cards, you're looking at a cost of around $9,708.58 at the time of writing, which is a sum of money so eye-popping that I shudder to imagine spending that much money on cardboard.

To put that into perspective, the same app that valued Ascended Heroes also valued Phantasmal Flames at $1,287, Mega Evolution at $1,561.09, and Prismatic Evolutions at $4,029.87. Not only is Ascended Heroes the most expensive by far, it also costs more than three entire master sets of other expansions combined.

Mega Lucario Pokémon TCG

Between Magic's Spider-Man and Pokemon's Mega Evolution, I don't think I can afford to collect cards anymore

It's a tough week for TCG fans with both Magic's Spider-Man and Pokemon Mega Evolutions launching on the same day.

Now there are a few things to consider, and one of them is the extremely volatile Pokemon TCG second hand market. Ascended Heroes has just been released, which means the prices of singles can fluctuate pretty wildly, but probably not enough to make the expansion's sets drop below the likes of Prismatic Evolutions.

It's also worth noting that the Mega Gengar exet alone sold for a whopping $1,000 on release day, which might also skew things a bit. In any case, if you're planning on getting a full set of Ascended Heroes, just be ready to pry open your wallet and get ready to spend the big bucks, because the Pokemon TCG sure doesn't look like it's going to get any cheaper anytime soon.
