The message is very clear – Game Rant readers are PC gamers! While the battle between consoles was hotly contested, PC asserted its dominance in our latest survey, with over 60% of voters planning to play their games on laptops and PCs this year. This is hardly surprising, given the accessibility PCs offer in terms of custom builds and bypassing the majority of console exclusivity restrictions, but it's astonishing how heavily favored the platform is.
Among the consoles, Sony has reigned supreme, with close to 400 gamers choosing to use their PlayStation system to enjoy their favorite past time in 2026. This is, interestingly, closely followed by “other”, which can include the likes of VR systems, handheld consoles (aside from Nintendo Switch/Switch's gaming platforms to see it well with gaming platforms2). for variety!
Perhaps the biggest surprise, and somewhat disappointing result, are the low numbers for Nintendo players. Given that Nintendo is the latest console vendor to release a new product, it's somewhat of a surprise to see such a small representation for Switch and Switch 2 gamers. The Switch 2 got off to a somewhat shaky start in 2025, so Nintendo is hoping to turn things around with some big releases in 2026.
