“Our editorial calendar is booked” Overwatch 2 is cooking up something big for 2026

Overwatch 2 has big shoes to fill after a successful year in 2025, and from the sounds of it, the hero shooter's developers are ready to rise to the challenge.

Emre Sarioglu's new design and voice in Overwatch 2 Comic

Now, Overwatch 2 has picked up the story where the cinematic left off – and practically confirmed Emre's eventual arrival as a new hero in the process. “Search & Destroy” is a new Story Time series narrated by Freja's voice actor, Olivia Le Andersen. It followed Freja as she tracked down the missing agent, all while revealing a massive plot twist: a few years after leaving Overwatch, Emre joined Talon, though he had since gone rogue again.

Freya met Overwatch 2 Talon works Moira, Mauga, Widowmaker and Reaper as they follow clues as to where Emre may have gone. After gathering this evidence, Freja realized that all of Emre's Talon jobs were located near satellite command centers that monitored global security, except for one in Riyadh that she remembered visiting during her time with Overwatch.

Sure, she found Emre attacking said facility the moment she arrived, but the killer she encountered was not the man she remembered. With a design described by the fallen soldiers as “demonic”, Emre unloaded on Freja with a hard light gun never seen before Overwatch 2 before, his eyes black and featureless. Reinforcements arrived, but were quickly destroyed by a massive blast of combustion energy from Emre. But when he comes out of the fire, his eyes are back to normal, and he recognizes Freya.

Although Andersen voices every other character in the series, including playable heroes such as Moira, Emre's lines are spoken by an unidentified male actor, further proof that he may be a new hero.

Who is Emre Sarioglu in Overwatch 2?

Emre first appeared in a portrait from Ana's origin story back in 2016, and his name was revealed in an in-universe lore document in 2018, but it wasn't until Overwatch: Declassified 2023 that his name and face were officially linked. Beyond these few appearances, Emre had been shrouded in mystery until Frejas Overwatch 2 reveal brought him back to relevance last year.

That said, his emergence into the limelight could not have come with greater consequences. His diabolical makeover and Talon team-up are surprisingly on their own, but his shocking personality change is even more so. However, the red eye with three dots above and below seen on the chest of his armor has appeared in Monitoring lore before. Sombra has been digging into a secret organization with this symbol for years, and she recently discovered that the group may have been responsible for the destruction of Overwatch's headquarters. It is possible that Emre and his dark-eyed “kill switch” are also connected to this conspiracy.

Regardless, with his striking design, unique powers and voice acting, it seems extremely likely that Emre will be one of the new heroes coming to Overwatch 2 this year. With other teasers suggesting Anrans Overwatch 2 debut as well, fans get a clearer picture of some of the characters they may soon see.
