One Piece: Why Zoro is still the Straw Hat's biggest mystery

Despite being the first official member of the Straw Hats, Zoro still has the most mystery surrounding him in the entire crew!

Zoro's famous three swords

When two just isn't enough

One Piece is a huge story that encompasses countless characters, but Roronoa Zoro is one of the most pivotal – and has been around since near the beginning of the epic story. Zoro is determined to be the best swordsman in the world, and he wields not just one, but three swords. All three of Zoro's swords have a name (at this point in the story), along with their own story to tell. The three swords are called Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu and Enma.

When Zoro first joined the story, only Wado Ichimonji had a name. This iconic white sword is also what Zoro characteristically wields in his mouth, which can also be seen in the Netflix live-action version of One Piece. Beyond the live-action show, Zoro's other sword has changed and improved throughout his journey. This is especially true of Enma, which previously belonged to the legendary samurai Kozuki Oden. Zoro can fight with all three swords at once, although he doesn't use all of them unless he needs to.

Official replicas of Zoro's Swords by Proplica

You can also use three swords

The three swords that have been made by Proplica are official One Piece merchandise, produced directly by Bandai. They are life size copies that are as screen accurate as possible. The three swords in the set are Zoro's current three, Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu, and Enma. The set not only comes with all three swords, but also a display stand, which impressively displays all three blades in their sheaths.

In addition to being screen-accurate weapons, the three replica values also have a very special feature. The remakes also feature lines of dialogue from Zoro as well as Kozuki Oden, the former owner of Enma. An example of the dialogue can be seen in the YouTube video BANDAI SPIRITS posted by the swords. Of course, the dialogue is only available in Japanese, by the Japanese voice actors behind these characters.

In addition to posting pictures of the trio of leaves, it One Piece the manga X account also posted a photo of Zoro holding Wado Ichimonji in his mouth, which is exactly what any fan would probably want to do as well if they got their hands on the famous white sword. The Premium Bandai X post also links to an interview with the staff who led the project to make the swords, but note that this is again only available in Japanese.

The swords will be released in June through Premium Bandai Japan and can be purchased for ¥59,400 ($380 USD). Keep in mind that they are real props, not toys, and they come with both special voice recordings and a display stand. Each sword also has a sheath, not just a bare blade. This might be your only chance to use three swords, just like Roronoa Zoro does – but we really don't recommend actually using them.

Take it again One Piece now on Crunchyroll or Netflix.
