OD will be so different that Hideo Kojima is unsure if it will work

Hideo Kojima can't stop talking about how different OD will be from a traditional horror game. While he said that Death Stranding 2 will only be crucial to it gaining mainstream acclaim, the director is confident that the upcoming horror game will not be equally well received by everyone. In fact, even he is not sure if his vision will come to fruition.

Being a Kojima game, you can expect the OD to be really weird. The director is loved for having one unique vision when it comes to his game, but the horror genre can allow him to take things up a notch. In a recent interview, he said that he could not explain exactly what OD will be, but he is not sure “if it will work”.

Kojima isn't sure if OD will work the way he envisions

A terrified woman from OD.

In a conversation with ananweb (translated by Automaton), Kojima revealed that OD will be very different from all other games from the genre. “I can't say exactly what it is yet, nor do I know if it will work. We've created stealth games and delivery games that were unlike anything before, but systemically they were similar to other games,” he said.

“This time we're trying to change the service model from the ground up, so it should be quite challenging. We've packed the trailer full of tips, so if you keep thinking about it, you might figure it out.” The reveal trailer was filled with all sorts of cryptic messages, and some even hinted that it was teasing Silent Hill.

10 years later, Hideo Kojima undoes the cancellation of Silent Hills with OD

It's been over a decade since Silent Hills shut down…

Of course, there's no way to know what the final game or story will be like until we've played it. Remember how confused we all were after the reveal trailer for Death Stranding? As for why it possibly won't work, Kojima seems to be straying from traditional methods of video game development, or maybe he just can't find a real ghost to scan.

I can't wait to see what Kojima is talking about, and what this new “service model” looks like. If there's one thing we can expect from him, it's to create genre-defining games.
