The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is pretty much a new recording in anything but name. A bunch of things have changed, added some new interesting mechanics such as origin stories for each breed and even added a new dialogue. But many things that made oblivion the game we feel and love have also been held around, such as stupid little Easter eggs and voice games.
In fact, Oblivion Remastered is so faithful that it has even kept some things in the game's files that were never intended to see the light of day. In the original oblivion, players were able to use console commands to find different characters hidden in the game's files used for test purposes. One of these was an NPC called Alban Corinus, who happened to be partly expressed by none other than Bethesda's Todd Howard.
Oblivion Remastered still has Todd Howard hiding in the game's files
As explained by PC Gamer and shown by Youtube user Uzis, if you open the game's console commands and write “COC Toddtest”, you will be transported in a house with multiple NPCs. This location was a test cell that Bethesda used to try out certain features, and an early version of the disposition mechanic that allows you to grow closer to NPCs can be seen when talking to Albin Corinus.
Family
For all the new players who jump into remaster, here's all you can do in oblivion you can't in Skyrim
From spelling to acrobatics and hand-to-hand battle, a fan has broken down every forgetful mechanic missing in Skyrim.
You can very clearly hear Cornius expressed by Wes Johnson, but it is mostly Todd Howard that makes it constantly so little wood, and you can even romantic Bethesda director if you wish. Keep selecting the “Happy” option, and Corinus will be so beaten by you that he will say “I can't remember ever loving moments, like this moment, with you.”
On the other hand, if you do not want to be cozy with Todd Howard and would rather he calls you a nasty name, you can continue to choose the “angry” option instead. Eventually, his disposition will sink so low that he will start to swear on you, and Todd Howard who disputes you, you sound as bizarre as you can imagine.
Although it is a bit uncomfortable, it is nice to see that Bethesda has chosen to keep pieces of Oblivion's history in the game like this. It could easily have removed the test cells, but instead chose to redo them with the rest of the game, although you could argue that Flirting with Todd Howard would probably have been better left for our imagination.
