Nintendo Switch 2 Dock leaks online with polar bears

An alleged image of Nintendo Switch 2 doll has appeared online, strangely showing the device along with some polar bears. This leak comes from the same source that has already shared several alleged looks at Nintendo's next console.

The person in question goes by NextHandheld on Reddit and Twitter. Since late December 2024, this source has shared a couple of real-life images of the Switch 2 that are believed to be legitimate, not least because they match several other recent leaks and rumors about the highly anticipated device.

Nintendo comments on latest Switch 2 leak

In a rare move, Nintendo is offering some official commentary on the latest Switch 2 leaks, which appeared online in early January 2025.

This rising star among leakers continues his activity and has taken to Twitter on January 12th to reveal a supposed image of the Switch 2 dock. The image shows the station stuck in snow, with two polar bears visible in the background. The leaker suggested that this was a result of them doing a background swap with some generative AI software. NextHandheld's previous Switch 2 leaks also appear to feature AI-generated backgrounds, presumably in an attempt to hide the real-world environment(s) they're from, reducing the chances of Nintendo finding out who's sharing them.

NextHandheld's new leak matches previous Switch 2 Dock rumors

As for the subject of the image, its design is in line with some previous rumors about the device. Specifically, the Switch 2 dock is said to be more rounded than its predecessor — a difference clearly visible in NextHandheld's photo. The device is also depicted with the Switch logo augmented with the addition of the number two. This is consistent with NextHandheld's previous claim that the upcoming console will simply be called the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Dimensions remain unclear

Due to the AI-powered background swap performed by the source, the image lacks any reference to scale, making it unclear how large the device is. According to a number of previous leaks, the Switch 2 will be noticeably larger than its predecessor. With reported dimensions of 270 x 116 x 14mm, the device will be larger than even the Switch OLED model, by far the largest handheld Nintendo has commercialized to date. Despite this size difference, the Switch 2 dock may not be larger, potentially allowing more of the device's screen to extend over its top edge when docked compared to the original Switch.

Nintendo has so far twice committed to officially unveiling the Switch successor during its 2024 fiscal year, which is scheduled to end on March 31. The device itself is reportedly set to enter mass production by Q4 2024 – a claim supported by the recent surge in Switch 2 hardware leaks. The console can therefore hit the market from the second quarter of 2025 onwards.
