Nintendo Switch 2 Has set an impressive new sales record and moved over two million units in Japan. The latest sales table indicates that Nintendo Switch 2 continues to exceed other consoles regarding current sales.
Nintendo Switch 2 has gone to a fantastic start and even exceeded the original Switchen's sales. With more big hitters arriving at Switch 2 in the future, as Metroid Prime 4: BeyondThe Pokemon Legends: ZAand Hyrule Warriors: Age of JailThere is a good chance that these numbers will continue to rise. However, the system has already achieved a new performance.
Nintendo Switch 2 achieves new sales milestone
According to Famitsu, Switch 2 still leads hardware sales in Japan and has just exceeded 2 million total sales in the country. Although this is relatively small compared to the six million units that Switch 2 has sold overall worldwide, the fact that Japan has reached a third of that figure on its own is quite impressive. Interestingly, Switch 2 met the same milestone in the United States less than a month before, at the end of August 2025. The system is currently surpassing other consoles, including the original switch, with Switch 2 selling about 44,000 units in a single week in Japan, while Switch Oled and Playstation 5 bass system moved 10,000 each.
It is not the only way that Switch 2 has succeeded in surpassing its competitors. Compared to console sales only in Japan, Switch 2 has now doubled the sale of Playstation 5 Digital Edition and has sold 8X as many systems as Playstation 5 Pro. Switch 2 would have to sell almost 4 million more consoles in Japan to compete with Base Playstation 5's total sales so far, so it is clear that Sony still has a strong foothold in the home country of the two systems. However, given the current course for Switch 2, that figure may end up at some point.
At present, it remains to be seen whether Switch 2 can repeat the life of the original switch and the constant influx of new console sales. A stream of solid game publishers set for 2025 and 2026 will help keep these numbers grow. Nintendo has reportedly struggled to meet Switch 2 demand in Japan, so it is likely that a number of players would have driven these figures further if there had been enough units for them to buy the system. The unfulfilled demand will probably also help keep Switch 2's number growing in the coming months and years.
