A new pair of green and purple Joy-Cons have just been announced for Nintendo Switch 2. These new controllers mark the first official Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons to be released since the launch of the handheld hybrid last year.
The original and OLED models of the Nintendo Switch received a plethora of alternative Joy-Con variations during their lifetime, ranging from simple color changes to full-scale makeovers with exclusive designs. While new official Joy-Cons would launch for the original Switch regularly, some of the most intricate controllers were released alongside major first-party Nintendo games such as Pokémon, Marioand The Legend of Zelda. These collector-focused Joy-Cons would often be made to look like something from the world of the game, such as Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevees special edition Joy-Cons, which matched the colors of titular creatures, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the KingdomOLED Joy-Cons that featured Zonai-inspired designs.
Nintendo announces new purple and green Switch 2 Joy-Cons
- Available February 12 for $99.99
Officially called the “Light Purple” and “Light Green” Joy-Cons, this new pair of colorful Nintendo Switch 2 controllers will be available on February 12, 2026. Eager fans can already pre-purchase these new Joy-Cons through the official Nintendo Store, where they retail for $99.99, the same price as a new pair of Joy-Con 2 standard blue and red Joy-Con 2. Much like the standard Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons, and unlike the original Switch's alternate controllers, the primary color of both new Switch 2 Joy-Cons will still be matte black. The only parts of the controller that are a different color are the base of the thumb stick and the connector strip that attaches each Joy-Con to the Nintendo Switch 2. Aside from these minor color tweaks, these new Joy-Con 2s are identical to the ones included with the Switch 2, with both pairs featuring HD Rumble, motion controls, motion controls, Nintendo's C Buttons functionality, and the mouse. The Nintendo Switch 2's new purple and green Joy-Cons have received somewhat mixed reactions from fans in the hours since their announcement. While some fans are just happy to see new Joy-Cons finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 after a seven-month wait, others have expressed their disappointment at the lack of significant change from the Switch 2's included Joy-Cons. X-user @Lurker89742 summed up this general sentiment in responses to Nintendo's official announcement, saying “these aren't purple and light green. These are black with some small touches of purple or green.”
As Nintendo's announcement says, these new Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons will hit store shelves the same day as Mario tennis feveralthough the controls don't seem to be directly tied to the sports game as the purple and green color scheme doesn't really match any of the characters featured in Mario tennis fevers line-up, nor do they feature any special logos or designs inspired by the game.
But even if these new Joy-Cons are unlikely to be a direct connection to Mario tennis fevertheir disclosure came shortly after a deep dive into the new Mario the sports game hit Nintendo's YouTube. There's a lot of information packed into the five-minute gameplay breakdown, but some of the most important details are that Mario tennis fever will feature 38 characters at launch, it will include optional motion controls, and will feature special “fever rockets” that significantly alter the opponent's side of the lane. Mario tennis fever will also support 1-4 players locally, giving Switch 2 users the perfect excuse to pick up those new green and purple Joy-Cons.
