Nintendo is reportedly wanting fewer adult games and spam on Switch 2

Nintendo has reportedly rolled out some changes in ESHOP since the release of Nintendo Switch 2 console, namely extra protection about what players used to call shevelware, and now call slop.

As we reported back in April, Nintendo Eshop had an influx of slop games, but they have been shot down the visibility step since an update went live. While titles are still available to buy, they have become much less visible when the window is shopping at Nintendo's marketplace.

Now it looks like Nintendo is getting to the root of the problem. Developers who speak with IGN say that Nintendo has sent out a new set of guidelines, tried to put a stop to these slop games, while addressing titles that contain “too sexual content”, “political statements” and more.

These new guidelines are said to have come into force when Switch 2 was launched and paints incorrect game descriptions, game bundles and titles with “sensitive content”.

Developers who speak with IGN feel that it is in response to complaints about Slop Games at Switch. Now Devs is told not to “provide incorrect descriptions” by their games, or to make game names and description changes after the launch.

In addition, the guidelines direct games that “openly support or criticize real countries, organizations or ideologies”, or something that can prove “harmful to the Nintendo brand”. This includes sexual content, which we have seen a lot at Eshop in recent years.

Nintendo has handled the publication of 'Eslop' for several years. In an article published back in December 202, we reported that even Devs behind packing could not protect its titles from the adopted entry into copyright. The creative director Wren Brier said: “Nintendo has not responded to any of our reports on these unfortunate fraud, which uses our brand game name and deliberately deceives Nintendo customers to buy cheap counterfeits.”

As the IGN -Height Public, we may have seen these guidelines already come into force. Last month, Automaton reported that the upcoming posts in the Hentai Girls series will be renamed Kawaii Girls. Pakotime Games notes that previous titles in the Hentai Girls series will not be forced to stick to the Franchise reclassification. So it seems that Nintendo is aware of the Eshop epidemic, but Devs will seem to be able to work around the guidelines by changing their brand.
