Nintendo has warned the future Switch 2 Users not to pull away the protective film that covers the console screen. The advice – which arrives just before Switch 2's launch – marks the company's second such warning in the latest memory.
Nintendo's next console is scheduled to meet the store shelves this Thursday, June 5. Some people who pre-ordered Switch 2 have already received their devices early, although they will not be able to play games on them until the official launch, when the console will receive a mandatory day-a-update that enables its core function. Separately, Nintendo has already made Switch 2 user manual available digitally.

Nintendo can fight to meet Switch 2 demand in Japan
Nintendo may be struggling to meet Switch 2 demand in its home market, with many Japanese buyers who still cannot secure a console.
The online version of Console Manual has recently been updated with a new warning about the device's display. As discovered by Universo Nintendo, the Japanese gaming giant has confirmed that Switch 2 comes up with a protective screen film that is applied for. The material is designed to prevent display fragments from spreading in the event of Switch 2's LCD panel break. Users are thus recommended not to remove the protective film under any circumstances. The guideline is displayed on page 3 of the user manual, listed as the final point point under the “Care Use” section on the right side.
Switch 2 inherits the Switch OLED model's anti-screen fragmentation protection
This marks the second such warning that Nintendo has issued in the 2020s. 2021 Switch OLED model also contains a protective screen that users are asked not to remove. The wording in the Switch OLED manual (HEG-001 model only) is identical to the one used for Switch 2. Since not every single console users will study their manual, Nintendo can choose to repeat this warning via other channels near the console's launch.
Consumers have a tendency to scale away things they should not
Anti-screen fragmentation layers are quite common in consumer electronics, as well as cases of their malpractice. In 2019, Samsung delayed the famous launch of its first foldable smartphone – Galaxy Fold – after many reviewers removed their screen protector. The protective film was a critical component of the device, even more than in the Switch OLED model, to the point that removal of it often made Galaxy Foldable. Samsung then designed the phone so that the protective layer extended under the frame, deterrent removal and added clearer warnings about its function to the packaging. Similar cases of protective film Misheet were documented for selected Apple Watch models, from 2018 series 4.
As with the original switch, Nintendo will offer an official screen protection for its successor. The accessory is currently available for pre-order as part of a package with an official Switch 2 support bag, priced at $ 39.99.
