Nintendo fans can soon release Call of Duty Switch

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the most popular first-person military shooters out there, and it may finally be coming to Switch and Switch 2, according to an industry insider. While the series has continued to have a prominent presence on platforms like PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, it hasn't had the same presence on Nintendo consoles, but with this new report, Call of Duty could finally see his deal with Nintendo through.

Already in 2023, Nintendo and Microsoft signed an agreement that would contain Call of Duty on Switch, but that deal has yet to come to fruition, as two years have passed without any franchise entries becoming available on the console. To bring Call of Duty to Switch is also not as simple as it sounds. The long-running Nintendo console has hardware limitations, and now with the Switch 2 part of the equation, there are two consoles to consider. Call of Duty hasn't been entirely absent from Nintendo's previous roster, but when it comes to the Switch, it's been a long waiting game. But that wait may soon be over.

Call of Duty didn't lose its identity with Black Ops 7 – it lost it 12 years ago

While Black Ops 7 has been criticized for lacking the Call of Duty identity, the atmosphere of the series actually shifted over a decade ago.

Call of Duty may finally be coming to Switch next year

According to journalist Jez Corden via Twitter, the Switch's first Call of Duty the game is “almost finished” and could arrive as soon as the next few months. Of course, that's an incredibly vague timeline, but if Corden's predictions are correct, it would finally mark the end of years of waiting. While Corden has a lot of experience reporting on rumors and leaks, like predicting correctly Doom: The Dark Ages would be one day a PS5 launch, it is still important to remember that all discussions about Switch's Call of Duty port should be met with skepticism until officially confirmed by Nintendo or Activision. Although Corden claimed the Switch would get its first Call of Duty soon, he also made sure to temper fans' expectations, stressing that while it's almost done, the game isn't “close,” but he still insisted on a 2026 release date.

While stating his belief that Call of Duty would come to Switch sometime in 2026, he didn't give an estimated timeline. In addition, he refrained from stating whether this would come Call of Duty the game would be an entirely new offering for the Switch or a port of an existing entry. While a new entry would be a big surprise, recent releases are more likely to please Black Ops 6 or Black Ops 7 will be the games coming to the players. Since the Switch 2 is more powerful than its predecessor, it will be interesting to see if the mysterious Call of Duty The game is actually launched for both consoles or just the stronger one. That would make sense, given the large file size of the Call of Duty game, but it would also likely be controversial, as there are still Switch players who have yet to upgrade to the new iteration of the console.

The last one Call of Duty games to be ported to a Nintendo console were Call of Duty: Ghosts back in 2013.

Right now, there is no way to know for sure when Call of Duty is coming to Switch, but the next few months will hopefully lift the veil on the game's progress. If the Switch finally gets the military shooter, it will also be interesting to see about the future Call of Duty games can launch day one for Nintendo consoles instead of having to wait for ports. Until Nintendo or Activision make an official statement, Jez Corden's word should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's a compelling possibility. There hasn't been one Call of Duty game available on a Nintendo platform in 12 years, and as the wait grows longer, there are many gamers who would like to see the franchise finally make its debut on Switch and Switch 2.
