A Demon Policewoman's Tale (or Tail?)
-
The author behind the manga Squid GirlMasahiro Anbe, has announced that he will be releasing a new series soon. This new series will be called Akuma de Fukei (unofficially, Demon policewoman). Akuma de Fukei is currently listed to release its first volume on June 6, 2025, via Kodansha's Young Maga KC Special imprint. The volume has already been listed by Japanese online marketplace Rakuten.
This official announcement comes after a post by Anbe himself on his X Page (formerly Twitter) on December 6th. At the time, Anbe had only written that he had a new series he was releasing soon, but no other information was available. Now, via the listing page on Rakuten, the title of the new series, a brief description of the plot, and a first look at the characters are available.

Manga by Masahiro Anbe
A hard working Mangaka
Masahiro Anbe already has two other successful manga under his belt. His most famous work has undoubtedly been Squid Girlwhich was originally published in Weekly Shonen Champion 2007. The series ended almost 10 years later, in February 2016. Squid Girl was adapted into a two-season anime, which streamed in 2010 and 2011 on Crunchyroll, and was released at the same time as it aired in Japan. Squid Girl is still available to watch now on Crunchyroll now, more than 10 years later, as well as on HIDIVE.
Anbe's second successful manga series was Atsumer! Fushigi Kenkyū-bu (Mount! Mystery Research Club). Atsumer! Fushigi Kenkyū-bu was also published in Weekly Shonen Champion from September 2016, just seven months after Squid Girl concluded. Atsumer! Fushigi Kenkyū-bu just finished in July 2024, and there are currently no plans for an anime adaptation. Now, barely a year after its end, Anbe is back at it again with its latest series.

Akuma de Fukei
A Demon Policewoman's Tale (or Tail?)
The list for the first volume of Akuma de Fukei can be found on Rakuten, who have shared the most information about the new series that we have. The description of the manga on the list reads (translated from Japanese),
The creator of Squid Girl and Atsumer! Fushigi Kenkyū-bu takes on the challenge of a romantic comedy with a diabolical cop that will make anyone swoon! Eclair, a demon, comes all the way from the demon world to a police box in a country town in search of an evil man suitable to be her servant. She is attracted to Daichi Kuwabara, a policeman with a bad guy face. Eclair wants to get rid of Daichi and Daichi wants to push Eclair back to the demon world……but Daichi can't leave Eclair alone because she can't trust being alone.
The description is also accompanied by the first artwork available for Akuma de Fukeiwhich shows the characters Eclair and Daichi in their police uniforms. Eclair has an obvious demon tail in the artwork.
As mentioned above, the listing has the release date of the first volume of Akuma de Fukei on June 6, 2025, although it's important to remember that this will be the Japanese version's release. However, since the series has already been picked up by Kodansha, there is a good chance that an English version will be released at some point as well. The first volume will be 192 pages long and has a list price of ¥792 ($5 USD).
Akuma de Fukei released on June 6, 2024.
