This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
The Naruto the world has changed a lot over the years and deep into Boruto fans have seen new powers introduced, along with some older powers being completely destroyed in the story. Such an ability that has lost importance in Boruto era is the power of the six paths. While it used to be an incredibly useful ability that was most sought after in Naruto, i Boruto it doesn't really mean much because of how history has handled things so far.
Say goodbye to the Rinnegan and welcome an even stronger eye in Boruto
The Rinnegan has become obsolete in Boruto. This new eye is much better now.
In fact, it's safe to say that the divine powers of the Six Paths have officially died in Boruto, after Naruto got Kurama from him and Sasuke also lost his Rinnegan. However unfortunate it may be, it is truly the end of an era for the Six Paths Powers in the Naruto series.
Rinnegan and Six Paths Sage Mode were the strongest divine powers in Naruto
-
The Rinnegan offered the visual ability of the Sage of Six Paths
-
Six Paths Senjutsu offered the vitality of the sage
In the Naruto series, fans knew that the Six Paths Powers were the pinnacle of strength that was clearly established from early in the story. Essentially, the Six Paths powers were a recreation of the chakra of the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki. To acquire the power of the Six Paths, one had to either combine the Chakra of Hagoromo's two children, that is, Indra and Asura Otsutsuki, or be gifted directly by Hagoromo himself.
Besides the six paths, the Rinnegan has another great power. It is the difficult seventh path, called the outer path. Those with the power of the fabled Rinnegan have the power to rule over life and death. Nagato gives up his life because he trusts you. — Naruto's wife about the Rinnegan
Different characters acquired the power of the six paths in different ways. For example, Madara Uchiha acquired the power of the Six Paths by stealing a piece of Hashirama's flesh and infusing it into his own body. Considering he was the incarnation of Indra and Hashirama was the reincarnation of Asura, he was able to give birth to the Chakra of the Six Paths and awaken the Rinnegan. This eventually gave him immense powers once he returned in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Becoming the Jinchuriki of the Ten Tails, Madara eventually gained the Six Paths Senjutsu as well and became the next Sage of the Six Paths in the world.
Then there is the case of Naruto and Sasuke to consider. Both of these characters acquired the power of the Six Paths by being gifted directly by Hagoromo Otsutsuki. At the moment of death, they both met Hagoromo, and he gave half of his powers to each, allowing them to fight Madara and even face Kaguya Otsutsuki. By acquiring such immense powers, Naruto and Sasuke became gods in their own right. Naruto gained the Six Paths Senjutsu as well as the chakra of the tailed beasts. Meanwhile, Sasuke gained the power of the Rinnegan, giving him immense visual prowess. While these powers were highly sought after in the Naruto series, in Boruto they died a sad death.
Ikemoto has killed Naruto and Sasuke's divine powers
-
The Rinnegan lost all meaning
-
Six Paths Senjutsu doesn't even exist
The end of Naruto and Sasuke's divine powers came in the arc where Isshiki was the main enemy. In the case of Naruto Uzumaki, he was seen using a power known as Baryon Mode, which, while great on paper, considering it allowed him to reach high levels of power, marked his downfall. Naruto's use of Baryon Mode caused Kurama's death, and it essentially took his greatest power from him. With Kurama's death, his connection with the other Tailed Beasts was also severed, and he lost access to his Six Paths powers, as far as fans know.
This is not a story about a boy aiming to become Hokage. That was my dad's story. This is none other than my story! — Boruto Uzumaki, Boruto Chapter 1
In the case of Sasuke Uchiha, his Rinnegan was directly stabbed by Momoshiki, who had taken over Boruto's body. Essentially, both of these characters lost their Six Paths Powers. With that, the Boruto series killed the divine powers of the Naruto series in a very shocking way.
Naruto and Sasuke's legacy has been destroyed in Boruto
Although some fans may not like to admit it, The truth is that the Boruto series has ruined the legacy of many Naruto characters, and at the top of that list is Naruto and Sasuke. Ironically, it's the two characters from the Naruto series that have gotten the most attention in Boruto, but the handling has been terrible, and fans are frustrated with any changes to this day. Naruto and Sasuke were never meant to be disrespected by villains like they were in the Boruto series, and on top of that they were completely stripped of the greatest powers they had worked incredibly hard to earn and then sealed away just to give the next generation a platform to shine.
Say goodbye to Naruto Uzumaki and welcome the new strongest character in Boruto
Naruto Uzumaki is powerful, but there is a stronger ninja in Boruto now.
This handling of characters is certainly not acceptable to all Naruto fansand rightly so. There is no reason for the Boruto series to treat the old legends this way just because the next generation needs to shine. A talented writer can easily do both at the same time, or do it in a way that preserves the legacy of the old generation. Regardless, there is still hope for the old legends of the Naruto series to regain some of their lost grace after their eventual return in Boruto, which seems imminent at this point.
Boruto's ending could restore Naruto and Sasuke's legacy for good
right now, it cannot be denied that Naruto and Sasuke's legacy could be saved in the Boruto series. As the series draws to a close, they must return. Neither Naruto nor Sasuke are dead at this point in the storyand that means they will eventually have to make a comeback. When Naruto and Sasuke come back, maybe they will get new powers, or their old powers will be restored somehow. Regardless of which way Ikemoto goes about it, if they are restored to the status they once had, fans will certainly be happy to see them back on the front lines.
But even if they aren't given the powers they so desperately need at this point in history, fans know for sure that the end of Boruto would once again preserve their legacy. This is because the ending of Boruto will essentially mark the end of a dark era for these two charactersand every new step for the franchise will most certainly focus on Naruto alone. Perhaps a new story set in the blank period or a remake would once again shine the spotlight on these two characters and let them shine. Either way, the end of Boruto is needed to preserve and restore the legacy of the old legends, and fans absolutely cannot wait for it.
