Most powerful kaiju in kaiju no 8 manga

Kaiju No. 8 (Also known as Monster #8) is a fantastic series designed by Mangaka Naoya Matsumoto, all about the Japanese Armed Forces' struggle against the ever-present Kaiju threat in a fictional world. The term “Kaiju” mainly translates to “monsters” in English (thus the two manga titles) and represents a whole sub-genre with media in Japanese film, manga and anime giant monsters that show it out.

To name some of the most remarkable examples, there are all Godzilla-based media (of course), King Kong and Ultraman. But what terribly kaiju has appeared in Kaiju No. 8 So far, and how do they stack up when ranked side by side?

Updated September 5, 2025 by Julián Fernández Loyarte: Not only is season 2 of Kaiju no. 8 -Anime currently, but the original manganese also ended on July 18, 2025. Disclaimer: Disclaimer: The records below have some heavy spoilers for Kaiju No. 8 Anime, because manganese is much longer in the story than the anime adaptation.

Mixogastero

A big but weird fungal type kaiju

Unfortunately, this first entry is the only “numbered” Kaiju here, as the rest of the ranking consists of all Daikaiju that JDF could not beat at the first observation, which demanded that they be identified when they showed off. This sponge type kaiju (better known as Mixogastero) first shown in Chapter 12 of Mangan, where the recruits of the new Armed Forces, including the “Cadet” Kafka Hibino, are introduced to help take it down as part of their education.

Now, at a basic level, this bug -like monster is obviously something that JDF can handle quite easily, since the main body was planned without much effort of my Ashiro's gigantic cannon while the rest of the troops cleaned up their offspring. That said, if Kafka had not buried in one of the corpses and found the implanted eggs (modified by Kaiju no. 9), these smaller offspring would have kept themselves self -replicative long after JDF left the stage and caused countless injuries. Basically, it is Boss Monster, but more of a weaker mini-boss than a real manager.

Kaiju No. 10

Also known as Soshiro Hoshina's numbered battle suit

Here is another kaiju that they introduced to the story by issuing a “challenge” of variety to the Armed Forces, Kaiju No. 10. This animal of a creature is the one who used Draconic type flying Kaiju to orchestrate a kind of air attack on the third division's Tachikawa base. Now, individually, Kaiju No. 10 is basically the “thoughtful” living daikaiju that has seen so far (until the second wave arch), which shows an initial resilience of 8.3 before raising it to 9.0 in its enlarged form.

That said, this prototype Kaiju created by No. 9 has some obvious deficiencies, the largest of which is its personality, even its desire for a worthy battle. Since No. 10 liked so much fighting against the Deputy Captain in the third division, Soshino Hoshiro, he set his first goal to destroy the base of the back burner, and this eventually led to his defeat and possible status as a numbered weapon.

Kaiju No. 1 (RT-0001)

The future vision kaiju

Next up is one of the first Kaiju in the series that is only “seen” in their weapons form. For numbered daikaiju, JDF makes it a point to take their corpses after they have been defeated and turned them into weapons, similar to something as Quinque I Tokyo Ghoul.

Now it is not much known about Kaiju No. 1Other than the fact that it was “the future sight Kaiju” and the first “numbered” Kaiju. But from what readers have seen from Gen Narumi with his power that lies in his eyes, it must have been an extremely formidable beast.

Kaiju No. 2 (FS-1002)

Sapporo's accident

To be the weapon practiced by the Director General of the Armed Forces, Isao Shinomiya, Kaiju No. 2 Must have been a real threat when it lived. And from what readers currently know about Kaiju No. 2 before the weapon this seems to be true. Kaiju # 2 was a monstrous Behoth that almost destroyed Sapporo on its own before it was eventually taken down.

It was known for its monstrous strength, pride in its power, building -level sonic blasts and even the power to release an electromagnetic energy. While its overall forces are relatively basic and somewhat similar to Kaiju No. 10, the scale of these powers and the size of Kaiju dwarves what # 10 showed. In addition, even as a number weapon, Isao Kaiju used No. 2 to easily put a furious Kaiju No. 8 in its place. And to make things even worse, Kaiju could acquire the enormous force in No. 2 when he killed Isao Shinomiya and absorbed his number weapon.

Kaiju No. 14

Designed to teleport away from my Ashiro's bullets

The next five Kaiju on this list are all kinds in this “nebulous” gray area when it comes to ranking. See, named Kaiju's 11-15, all was made by Kaiju 9, and was quite literally designed from the ground up to directly counteract very specific defense members. Kaiju No. 14For example, apparently, a counter was created for my Ashiro, the weapons specialist for the Armed Forces. Kaiju No. 14 could fly, it could shoot very destructive beams from the mouth, it could generate power fields and it can even teleport.

The general tactics for this kaiju was to cause as much damage as possible, constantly teleporting to different places in an area so that my Ashiro could never “lock on” to it. While this worked for a while in counteracting Mina's battle style, she eventually overcame it, and there are a large number of defense force captains and vice captains who would have had a relatively easy time to fight this kaiju otherwise.

Kaiju no. 13

Moves really fast and were also defeated really quickly

Next up is one of the five named Kaiju of the other wave arch in Kaiju No. 8the Kaiju no. 13. This one did not have almost as much time to showcase their abilities as the other 4 (11, 12, 14 and 15) did.

This is because no. However, none of these attributes was enough for it to put up any real fight against Kafka, making it one of the weaker numbered Kaiju of this bow.

Kaiju No. 11

Designed to counteract Gen Narumis 'Mind Reading'

Much like how kaiju 14 was a direct counter to my ashiro, this next kaiju (alias Kaiju No. 11) Be a direct counter to Gen Narumi. With the help of Isao Shinomiya's memories, Kaiju no. 11 knew exactly how Gen's numbered weapons eyes worked and used their hydrokinesisis to prevent the gene from predicting the attacks with electrical signals.

Outside its water manipulation, Kaiju No. 11 is not so special. It had high resistance, was very powerful when it comes to strength and could change its body to meet its needs, but the only “special trait” it had was hydrokinesis. When the gene calculated a road around it, it was quite easy to close down Kaiju no.

Kaiju No. 12

Designed to beat Soshiro Hoshina in close battle

Kaiju No. 12 is difficult to rank. He was obviously designed to be a direct counter to Deputy Captain Soshiro Hoshina and the “perfect” version of what Kaiju # 10 was meant to be, but that is exactly why it is difficult to rank him. His fight against vice captain Hoshina was incredible and a joy to read, as Kaiju 12 really pressed vice captain to his absolute boundaries.

But if any other vice captain or captain of the Armed Forces had fought Kaiju no. 12, things may have been over a lot faster. Again, Kaiju 12 was designed to be a specialist up close who could do what Soshiro Hoshina did, but better. So if number 12 went up, says my Ashiro, it is very likely that it would be defeated very easily at a distance due to Mina's absurd penetration levels with the help of weapons.

Kaiju No. 15

Designed to end Kikoru Shinomiya

Mental attacks are extremely difficult to handle. Granted, Kaiju No. 15 Got these mental abilities as a way to beat Kikoru Shinomiya, but used her own memories from her family against her. But unlike everyone else named Kaiju in the other wave arch, Kaiju no. 15 would probably have been difficult for any defense force to handle.

Kaiju 15's mental abilities allowed her to dig up memories from the person she is connected to, manipulate said trauma and so much more. Everyone has some problems they work through in almost every step of their lives. So having to work through these issues at the moment while fighting one of the strongest Kaiju that exists is something that all defense members would fight with, even less Kikoru Shinomiya (considering all her latest trauma).

Kaiju No. 6 (EC-0115)

The literal king of kaiju

If this list was ranked there Kaiju No. 6 Would currently sit like a number weapon practiced by Reno Ichikawa, it would probably be near the bottom. But Reno was recently even able to use the No. 6 -Bodysuit, and even then the weapons from the numbered Kaiju were not confirmed to contain the “all” power that Kaiju used when he lived.

From what the readers have seen and heard of Kaiju no. 6, alias 'King of the Kaiju' (which seems to be similar to another Kaiju-King multiverse), it was almost certainly the most powerful Kaiju to date. When it was ramping, it killed over 200 defense members, as did Isao Shinomiya's wife (alias Kikorus mother). If there was a current threat in the story instead of a weapon used by Leno, Kaiju No. 6 can probably handle all other monsters on this list at once and still come out on top.
