Before Netherrealm Studios is officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1 In May 2023, the play's existence had already leaked several times, not only by Johnny Cage's voice actor, Andrew Bowen, but also by CEO of Warner Bros., David Zaslav. One of Mortal Kombat's co -creators will not move on from the series at any time soon
Ed Boon will continue to work with Mortal Kombat as long as it's fun for him
At San Diego Comic Con 2025, directly conducted an interview with Ed Boon, during which he shared his thoughts on his future in Netherrealm Studios. In response to a question of how long he plans to work with franchise Deadly Kombat and InjusticeBoon stated that he would continue to do it “as long as it's still fun to do.” He then added that although “hundreds of people work with these games,” he and Netherrealm studios will continue to do them “for as long as [they’re] Keeps fans happy. “
As many fans of the franchise will know, Ed Boon is one of the co -creators of Deadly Kombat. He did the series, along with other video game designer John Tobias, in the early 1990s, and he has remained involved in it to this day. Boon has almost 40 years of experience in the video game industry, and he has worked on almost all the main line payments in Deadly Kombat Franchise, like most of their spin-offs. To say that he has played a significant role in the creation and development of the series would undoubtedly be an understatement.

Ed Boon's willingness to continue working with IPS which he created for so long is something unusual in today's industry. More recently, many esteemed developers have expressed a desire to move on from the franchises they have built, either because of creative burnout or pension plans. Metal Gear Solid Creator Hideo Kojima apparently is not willing to direct a potential Death -beaching 3Masahiro Sakurai seems to be uninterested in doing another Super Smash Bros. Games and even Bethesda Legend Todd Howard believes that the upcoming Elder rolls 6 could be his last ever Elder rolls title.
Ed Boon's decision to stay on Netherrealm is a promising sign for the company's next game
Even if Deadly Kombat Franchise may have seen better days, it is still very popular and has maintained a level of texture, partly because of Ed Boon's commitment. It is not clear what Boon is currently working on, but he did in an interview back in September 2024 which Netherrealm Studios next match has already developed for about three years. Maybe Warner Bros. and Netherrealm will announce what the upcoming game is later this year, but there is a possibility that it may be a new Injustice title instead of a Deadly Kombat installment. Even still the news that Ed Boon will not leave Netherrealm and move away from Deadly Kombat Anytime can soon comfort many fans.
