Star Fox seems to be coming back in a pretty big way. Not only has it been confirmed that he will play a role in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie, but it was also reported that a brand new Star Fox game is currently in the works that will look to capitalize on the character's hopefully renewed popularity.
Star Fox Original Design was apparently based on Shigeru Miyamoto and I see it
Who better to take inspiration from?
That means it's no surprise that Fox McCloud is being talked about a lot on social media right now, and one talking point that's been brought up is that infamous theory that he's actually an amputee. Due to the way the older games made his model look, and the resulting illustrations that came about, there were many theories that Fox had cut off his own legs and replaced them with prosthetics.
It was based on the fact that Air Force pilots without legs can withstand more G's than people with legs, so many naturally assumed, due to the character models, that Star Fox pilots had to have their legs amputated. A bit odd for a Nintendo game, but not out of the question.
Even Miyamoto thinks The Fox Amputee Theory is wild
Well, to hopefully put this theory to bed once and for all, it turns out that Star Fox creator Shigeru Miyamoto himself thought it was completely bonkers. This is according to Nintendo of America's former head of marketing Kit Ellis (thanks GamesRadar), who recently claimed in a tweet talking about the theory that he was with Miyamoto when he was first asked about it.
According to Ellis, the reaction to Miyamoto's face was a combination of “'wait, what?' We'll probably see a fully intact Fox McCloud when he hits the silver screen next month.
