Mewgenics is getting a DLC and coming to consoles soon

The cat breeding roguelike is unstoppable. Mewgenics has been climbing the Steam charts since launch, even managing to topple Hades 2 with a peak of 115,428 players. Even co-creator Edmund McMillen is surprised at how well it has been received. It's probably with that in mind that he's announced a DLC and console ports.

Just a few hours ago, McMillen posted on X and revealed that the Mewgenics OST is live on Steam. But the more exciting news is it will come to consoles at some point and will also get a DLC. Unfortunately, no timeline or date was revealed, but the community is absolutely pumped.

Mewgenics DLC and console port announced

PC player numbers of Mewgenics are already through the roof, but a console port will see the numbers soar even higher, bringing PlayStation, Xbox and possibly Switch into the fold. As for the DLC, McMillen said that it won't be freeas “it will require a lot of work / people.” It's understandable, considering the base game took so long to build.

While the game is certainly popular, it has not been without controversy. Some of the voice actors have been the subject of controversy: such as YouTubers Hilda and Ethan Klein, who have been called out for their views on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and Christine Chandler, who was arrested on charges of incest, the charges of which were later dismissed.

Speaking about these casting choices, McMillen said he wanted to include people of “different beliefs”. He added that he wanted to “include and retain [cameos] that collided or counteracted each other.” To prove his point, the developer pointed to the casting of iDubbbz and Anisa, two YouTubers who have publicly feuded with the Kleins and their views.

To add to that, some of the cameos were decided years ago, with Ethan Klein recording his lines four years ago.
