Unlike Nintendo's other properties, the Metroid games vary wildly in quality, and we've ranked each game in the series from worst to best.

The key to beating Carvex is to expose its core, which can be done by destroying all of its tentacles at once. During the first phase of the fight this is relatively easy, but as more tentacles begin to sprout, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond players can start fighting. Thankfully, defeating Carvex isn't that difficult.

To damage Carvex, players must first destroy its tentacles and expose its core. At first, they'll only have one tentacle to worry about, but as the fight progresses, two more tentacles will sprout. Tentacles respawn a second or two after being destroyed, so players must find a way to do so destroys all of Carvex's tentacles at once. To use the control beam, players must press X to switch to the psychic visor, then hold A or ZR to charge their attack. When they release the button, Samus will fire a purple beam that can be controlled with the right analog stick or motion controls. The goal here is to direct the beam through the weak spot in the center of each tentacle without hitting any obstacles. If all goes as planned, Carvex's core will be exposed, allowing players to start blasting.

Players should take a moment to scan the Cavex before defeating it. That said, if they forget to do that, they'll be able to get the log file for Carvex from the Sanctum of the Guardians area a bit later.

It is important to note that players must do this before using the Control Beam use Samus' regular blaster to destroy the outer sheath protecting each tentacle's weak point. Shooting the weak point too many times after it has been exposed will result in the tentacle being destroyed, so players should be sure to stop shooting once the spikes are cleared. If they destroy the tentacle early, they have to wait for it to respawn and then try again.

During the first phase of the Carvex fight, there is only one tentacle. The next two phases have two and three tentacles respectively, while the final phase has three tentacles and a wall of vines that players need to navigate through the control beam. When not busy destroying Carvex's tentacles, players must focus on avoiding them, which they can do by shooting from left to right or jumping when it uses its spin attack.

In terms of destroying the core, missiles are the best option here. Players can get more missiles by destroying the spinning metal orbs that the Carvex occasionally fires. As an added bonus, charging the Control Beam will automatically retract any nearby missiles or energy balls. After enough missiles, the boss will finally go down, and players will receive the psychic bomb as a reward for their trouble.
