January 6th is going to be a big day for Marvel Rivals fans
Monday, January 6 will be a particularly exciting day for fans of the superhero shooter Marvel Rivals.
A Nexus Mods user recently uploaded a Donald Trump mod for one of the Marvel Rivals' popular Vanguards, Captain America. It made the rounds on social media, with some even looking for players with the Joe Biden mod so they could queue in a match. However, Nexus Mods appears to have banned and removed the Trump mod as players are directed to an error page saying it cannot be found on the site. Likewise, the Biden mod is also unsearchable on the website.
Why was Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod removed?
Back in 2020, Nexus Mods released a blog stating that they would ban mods related to socio-political issues in the US, and encouraged users to report mods that would violate this rule. This announcement coincided with the highly contested election between then-incumbent President Trump and his challenger Biden, who eventually won the race.
Over on social media, many Marvel Rivals fans were not surprised that the mod was banned, mostly pointing out that Captain America's model was not suitable for Trump. Meanwhile, a select few seemed displeased with Nexus Mods banning all political imagery from their site. This isn't the first time Trump has been used for a video game mod. Although many have probably been removed from Nexus Mods, there are still mods available for Skyrim, Fallout 4and XCOM 2 which shows the controversial figure.
On the other hand, Marvel Rivals Developer NetEase Games has not raised any issues regarding the use of character mods in the game, particularly those depicting controversial and/or political figures. As it is still a new game, NetEase has been dealing with various issues, such as fixing possible game bugs and lifting false bans on Marvel Rivals player.
