Marvel Mystic Mayhem has Midnight Suns Vibes and I love it

Last year, Netease skyded into mainstream (at least in the west) with free to play the hero shooter Marvel rivals. Since then, I have associated the mobile gaming giant with the pile with Marvel Slogging up the App Store. It turns out that I have blamed the wrong studio all the time. While Netease has developed a pair of Marvel games before (Marvel Super War, Marvel Duel), they were never released globally. Marvel Mystic Mayhem, a new team -based real -time tactic RPG, is the company's first worldwide Marvel Mobile Game. I was anxious to see how Netease would follow up on the success of Marvel rivals, and after spending a few days grinding Mystic Mayhem, I was happy and a little surprised, to discover that for a Marvel Mobile Gacha game, it is punching over its weight.

As you may have guessed, Mystic Mayhem is set on the magical side of the Marvel universe. Fear Lord Nightmare leads war against Marvel Heroes in Dreamscape, a metaphysical plan where their darkest dreams become reality. Of course, Doctor Strange has gathered a team to save the heroes from Dreamscape and defy Nightmare's plan to bend the reality to their will.

From the moment the opening cut started, I could say that Mystic Mayhem was on a different level than the typical Marvel Mobile Game. There is a level of Polish and production value in mobile games Netease develops and publishes which is surprisingly unusual, given the wicked amounts of money that mobile games make, but that investment makes a big difference. Games like Knives Out and Naraka: Bladepoint are not just some of the most popular mobile games in the world; They also blur the boundary between mobile games and real games.

Mystic Mayhem has many of the same quality markers. While its squad-based games and gacha mechanics make it obvious that it is a mobile game, it has a triple-a-aesthetic. The art style, a unique mix of cell-shaded series and JRPG character designs reminiscent of final fantasy, Hades and Marvel rivals, is wallpaper host. The story develops on average that are woven between assignments, which is a mixture of animation and motion comics that are completely expressed. It has the extent of a large Marvel Crossover event, with a main story (The Stem) and associated side stories (the branch) that tells a interconnected story about the demons that lurk in a hero's psyche. This is not just a collision of clans with a Marvel skin; Netease has a clear artistic vision and a new story to tell in Mystic Mayhem.

Gets weird in the Marvel universe

Mystic Mayhem is strongly reminiscent of my favorite Marvel game, Midnight Suns. Both games tell stories about the occult and have tactical battle with teams of three heroes, but where Midnight Suns certainly played it with a list largely of MCU favorites, Mystic Mayhem is not afraid to become unclear.

The tutorial contains Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch and a magical imbidden Hulk who crushes and zapped through the dream car, so I thought I knew what to expect. But when these heroes fell to nightmare, I discovered how the niche the mysterious devastation list really is.

The first three characters I unlocked were Sleepwalker, Misty Knight and Angela; Three characters that you probably haven't heard of if you are not a huge comic book or a Marvel Snap player, and even then you would only know two of the three (Sleepwalker card when?). After that, I unlocked Psylock, Lady Bullseye, Man-Ting and Moon Girl & Devil Dino. Of course, you can find such as Iron Man, Spider-Man and Thor, but the A-list heroes are exceptions here, not the rule.

You can also add history villains to your team. So far I have collected Mister Negative, Thread and Spider-Dopplanganger. Doppleganger is so unclear that even as a big Spider-man fan, I had to look up his performances. In 33 years, the character has only appeared 41 times and often only in the background.

Filling the lean program list with D-listers communicates that Netease has a lot of confidence in Mystic Mayhem. At launch there are 26 characters, and only nine of them have ever appeared in the MCU. Instead of choosing heroes who will sell features and combat passes, Netease picked those that fit into its world and the story it wants to tell. It makes me infinitely more interested in playing Mystic Mayhem because I know it's not just another mobile game.

It is probably still very evil in the way most mobile games are, and I will admit that I have already undergone the pressure from a well -placed ad, but at least I get a high quality experience for my money. If I am to be caught in a casino, I'd rather be Bellagio than Circus Circus. Or in this case, regardless of the scary, demon -filled version of Bellagio is. I think you know which one I think about.
