March 31 will be a sad day for WWE fans

WWE 2K24 the servers will be shut down on March 31st, meaning WWE fans are running out of time to get the full value of the game. WWE 2K24 launched in 2024 to mostly positive reviews. It was generally seen as another step in the right direction after WWE 2K22 regained confidence in the franchise and 2K23 took things to the next level.

Like the vast majority of modern sports games, WWE 2K24 is filled with online content. It has its fair share of divisive online content like microtransactions, but it also allows players to download user-generated content to improve their WWE 2K24 experience. WWE 2K24 has its fair share of online multiplayer modes as well, so ripping it out would cause significant damage to the game. Unfortunately, that's exactly what's happening on March 31st.

When will WWE 2K24 shut down?

The WWE 2K24 the servers will shut down on March 31st, meaning that virtually all of the game's online content will be unavailable from that point forward. This means it WWE 2K24 players will no longer be able to play multiplayer online matches or download anything from Community Creations. WWE 2K24s offline game modes will still be available, but it's still a shame that its online functionality is going down just two years after launch. The sad thing is that WWE 2K fans are likely used to this quick turnaround on shutouts at this point.

WWE 2K server shutdowns are nothing new

WWE 2K22 was released on March 11, 2022, and it didn't even make it to two years before all of its online functionality was shut down. That game's servers were unfortunately shut down on January 3, 2024. Its successor, WWE 2K23suffered a similar fate, with its servers shut down a couple of months before its two-year anniversary. This means it WWE 2K24s online servers hold at least one small longer than 2K22 and 2K23but it's still hardly anything to write home about.

Online functionality turns off so quickly too WWE 2K games is likely due to issues such as expiring licenses and the desire to move on to the newer games in the franchise. Yes, afterwards WWE 2K24 closes on March 31, WWE 2K25s online servers will remain online, as will the servers for WWE 2K26. WWE 2K25 however, online will be running until March 31, 2027, so fans have a little over a year to get what they want out of these modes.

A server shutdown date for WWE 2K26 has yet to be announced, but if it follows the established pattern, it will close on March 31, 2028. WWE 2K26 reviews have made it the lowest rating WWE 2K game since then WWE 2K22although it has still received a mostly positive reception from critics. Regardless, it's always a bummer when a game's online servers shut down, and one has to wonder if WWE 2K fans will ever start thinking about whether or not to buy the games when they're practically guaranteed to only have access to essential features for a two-year period.

It's not just the main series WWE 2K games that are shutting down. That was also confirmed WWE 2K Battlegrounds closes on July 9. WWE 2K Battlegrounds is an arcade spin-off with exaggerated character models and fantastic action not found in the more simulation-based main series games. WWE 2K Battlegrounds was launched way back in 2020, so its shelf life online is much longer than WWE 2K game, but it is unclear why this is so. However, WWE fans who want to play these games online are running out of time to do so.
