Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo's Ending, Explained

Since JJK had recently quit, many fans were unhappy with Gojo's ending in the story.

Still, JJK's the ending doesn't change the fact that this was a story that fans thoroughly enjoyed over the last 6 or so years, with some chapters keeping them on the edge of their seats and others simply blowing them away. All intense action in JJK finally ended with chapter 271, and now the story of these magnificent wizards has finally come to an end.

A new curse user was revealed at the end

  • Yuji, Megumi and Nobara battled a new curse user
  • Yuji takes on Gojo's dream

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 270 introduced a new curse user to the fans. This was another interesting addition by the author, but it was also a calculated one. At first, fans were completely confused as to why the author introduced a new enemy just one chapter before the end of the story. But later down the line, it finally became clear to fans why that was. IN JJK chapter 271, this curse user was revealed to be a rather shy person who seemed to be upset that a woman did not return his love. Because of that, he used his newfound powers to cause trouble in her life.

I expect great things from you when you join us! – Yuji Itadori

This bitter man was naturally caught for his behavior. It was quite strange for the fans to see this individual defeated so easily. But then fans got to see a flashback of Gojo, entrusting everything to Yuji Itadori and showing him how to properly raise the next generation. Now, Yuji used this moment to relay a similar message to this individual, letting him know that he expects great things from him in the future after he mends his ways. This was quite an intriguing touch by the author, and was only meant to show that Yuji was now much more mature than he was at the beginning of the series, and that even though the world is a much safer place right now, Yuji would need a powerful gang around him to fight monsters that cross his path.

Gojo's dream passed on to Yuji Itadori

Gojo is dead, but his dream lives on

Of course, you absolutely can't talk about JJK's ending without considering Gojo Satoru's character. Gojo is the face of JJKand despite not being the main character, it is quite easily the most popular. Gojo died in his fight against Sukuna in JJK chapter 236. This was an absolutely magnificent fight that he fought to the best of his ability. Unfortunately, all of this wasn't enough as Sukuna had powers from not only her own cursed technique, but Megumi's as well. These two cursed techniques essentially combined to give him the edge over the strongest modern wizard and essentially killed him.

Gojo is officially confirmed to be dead, but it's incredibly strange for the author not to have acknowledged his death further into the story. In fact, every character in JJK has had their lives influenced by Gojo in one way or another, and it's safe to say that he's at the center of it all. For the last chapters not even mentioning Gojo properly was really a failure on the author's part.

One of you should forget me and achieve a strength different from mine. – Gojo

For what it's worth, in the final chapter of JJK, fans got to see Gojo Satoru again. In a flashback with Yuji, where these two were training together. Gojo felt that he had absolutely nothing to fear, knowing that the generation that would come after him was capable and would go on to reach a similar level to him, or even surpass him. While Yuji found this behavior from Gojo strange, to Gojo this was utter confidence.

Gojo knew that even if he lost the battle against Sukuna, the future of the world was in safe hands. He then proceeded to tell Yuji that he expected great things from him in the future and basically Gojo's dream became Yuji's dream.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami finally confirms Uraume's gender

Gege finally sheds light on a question many fans had about the gender of Uraume in JJK.

Gojo wanted the Jujutsu order to change, and the fans saw it happen in real time in the last few chapters, especially when the higher ups were basically all exterminated, and at the same time, those trying to control the Jujutsu hierarchy who monopolized simple domain were as well. Now, Gojo's dream is basically close to coming true, but at the same time, fans can also come to the conclusion that it really wasn't the best ending for him.

Ryomen Sukuna's legend finally dies

Sukuna finally gets the meaning of love

The last panel of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, shows the remaining Sukuna finger.

Of course, one must then also discuss the character Ryomen Sukuna. Sukuna was treated well in the Shinjuku Showdown arc. He went up against a host of wizards and held his own incredibly well. Sukuna was certainly a force to be reckoned with in this battle, and it's safe to say that the performance he delivered was truly worthy of the title he holds. In the end, Sukuna was defeated by Yuji, and basically what was left behind was a singular finger that shouldn't have enough cursed energy to even manifest him. Essentially, this finger was now harmless and simply acted as a talisman.

Sukuna was also seen in the afterlife, where he looked back on his life and finally admitted that he was the way he was because he was an unloved person. In the end, Sukuna concluded that if there was another chance for him, maybe he would take a different path, this time, one filled with love.

Meanwhile, the other characters in the JJKlike Megumi and Nobara, continued to work alongside Yuji Itadori. These are the faces of Jujutsu High right now, and they continue to fight cursed spirits, while bringing peace to the world. Other characters, such as Yuta, Maki, Toge, and Hakari, among others, continue their daily lives, as if nothing had happened, and it essentially served as the end of JJK.

Sukuna's finger served as the final panel of the series, and this was essentially symbolic. Obviously, JJK's ending wasn't as good as fans wanted it to be, but it certainly wasn't the worst out there either. At the moment, no sequel or spin-off to JJK has been announced, but that could potentially change in the future, depending on what the writer wants to do for his next project.

Jujutsu Kaisen's final chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
