This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the biggest manga hits of all time for Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. When this series by Gege Akutami ended in 2024, the magazine took a big hit. Fortunately, however, Gege Akutami was willing to make a comeback with a brand new sequel called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Modulo is a sequel with different characters set years in the future. Needless to say, fans have fallen in love with this story despite mostly featuring an entirely new cast of characters. Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo has had a great run so far, but the end is now fast approaching. Weekly Shonen Jump has already hinted at the story's conclusionand it may end within the next few weeks.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo began on September 8, 2025
Gege hinted at a 3 volume long term
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo began its run in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump on September 8, 2025 – about a year after the end of the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga. The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga has proven to be a huge success. Its first volume, released in January 2026, was a huge hit and went on to become one of the best-selling series of the month. Of course, JJK Modulo has a great legacy behind it. It is a sequel set 68 years after the end of the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, which was a worldwide sensation. As such, it was always going to be a big hit.
Immediately after its beginning, Gege Akutami released an important announcement hinting at the length of this manga and setting up expectations for fans. In his announcement, Gege Akutami said he believes the Modulo manga will run for about three volumes, or six months of weekly releases.
“The ability to think of many different ideas, like expanding on a part of the main story, refining some specific background set, changing the time period or even doing a parallel story; and that's how Modulo, which was actually the craziest idea during the concept stage, came to life after going through serialization meetings.
It is a very short, intensely compact serialization. It will be about six months of work (if not interrupted).
About three volumes worth.
The illustrations are drawn by the famous Iwasaki Yuuji!! Wonderfully!! So good!! Absolutely fantastic!!
I hope everyone can enjoy Modulo as a new kind of introduction to Jujutsu!” — Gege Akutami
Naturally, fans were disappointed to hear that. When the sequel was first announced, some thought it might be a full-fledged normal length manga like its predecessor Jujutsu Kaisen. Many fans still clung to hope that despite Gege's message, it would continue for longer. But as evidenced by the pace of the series and current events, Gege's estimate seems realistic. JJK Modulo's end has now been heavily hinted at by the latest announcement in Jump, and it's definitely a disappointing update.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo may end in the next 3 chapters
Three Weekly Shonen Jump covers are announced back to back
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is definitely on top at the moment. A couple of chapters ago, Dabura's main battle started with Yuka Okkotsu, and on top of that, Tsurugi Okkotsu also took on Maru. Tsurugi and Maru's fight is already over, and Dabura will soon destroy Mahoraga. Of course, there's also the shocking new plot twist introduced by Gege, which involves Yuji and Maru changing the world of Jujutsu Kaisen forever by getting rid of all cursed energy. With that, the story definitely reaches a climax. Still, at least it was expected to see about 10 more chapters. However, a new reveal from Weekly Shonen Jump seems to point to an earlier conclusion of this sequel.
It was revealed by Weekly Shonen Jump that in issues 13, 14, and 15, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo will have a cover sheet each time. For context, a series with three color pages back to back is basically unheard of in Weekly Shounen Jump history. With such a historic moment unfolding for Jujutsu Kaisen Moduloit is believed to be an expulsion for Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen. As it appears, the series may end with Weekly Shounen Jump Issue 15. If Gege plans to finish the manga in 3 chapters, it would make sense to see Weekly Shonen Jump offer him so much limelight. Of course, that's just speculation and not yet confirmed by the paper.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo may still have more in store for fans
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is feared to be out of stock in the next three weeks due to the Jump covers. However, as stated by Jump, this could also just be due to how successful Gege Akutami and his story have been in the magazine. If so, then Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo would likely continue for a couple more chapters before reaching the end.
The current story of JJK Modulo revolves around Yuji and Maru's plan to eradicate cursed energy. Getting rid of Cursed Energy is a plot point revealed all the way back in the original JJK by Yuki. As the main story progressed, this plot point was completely forgotten, but Gege now brings it up again in Modulo. While Yuji and Maru may be successful, it could also very well backfire. If that were to happen, something like the merger could unfold, and the results would be disastrous.
All of which is to say that if Gege Akutami wants to continue the story, he can very easily continue to do just that. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo's current storyline is very versatile and it can either end in three chapters, or it can be further expanded and given more time to be even more successful.
Even if Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo ends, there is also the possibility that the series will get another sequel. As fans know, there is a large time difference between the original Jujutsu Kaisen and Modulo of 68 years. This time slot could easily be explored by Gege Akutami in a new manga, and fans would absolutely love it. Seeing the original cast in their prime is something many fans have been dying to see. Either way, Gege Akutami is far too profitable for the paper to let go so easily. Jump certainly hasn't seen the last of him. Sooner or later Gege Akutami will return to Jump because he is incredibly talented and Jump also needs him to carry the torch for the next generation of Shonen Manga.
