This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Jujutsu Kaisen Fans were very happy to hear that Gege Akutami was making a comeback with a brand new manga in the same world, with new characters. When Jujutsu Kaisen's continuation, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulowas announced, fans couldn't wait to see their favorite characters again. Shortly after, it was revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was set around 68 years into the futuremeaning the world had changed drastically. With such a massive time jump came major character deaths.
Right from the beginning it was confirmed Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin were officially dead. This left fans wondering what happened to the other main characters. While questions remained over Yuki Itadori's fate, Megumi Fushiguro's fate is almost certainly sealed already. It may come as a surprise to fans, though Megumi Fushiguro, whom Gege originally chose as the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, is most likely deadgiven that there is no mention of him and the time that has passed.
Megumi Fushiguro is most likely dead in Jujutsu Kaisen

Most of the JJK characters should be dead by now

There is no mention of Megumi in JJK Modulo
68 years after Shinjuku Showdown, most of the main roles in Jujutsu Kaisen are either dead or extremely old. In fact, most of them would have been over 80, and approaching 90, meaning the chances of them being alive are very low. Megumi Fushiguro is no different. Megumi should be in her 80s right now, which makes the chance of him dying very high.
Start by saving me, Itadori Yuji. — Megumi to Yuji, Culling Game
If someone with a superior body, like Maki Zenin, died of old age, then Megumi Fushiguro has absolutely no chance of being alive. The fact that Yuji Itadori is operating alone is also one of the biggest reasons why Megumi is most likely already dead, and it's really heartbreaking for many fans of the series, especially knowing that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo would have given them a chance to see Megumi at her peak.
Megumi was Gege's original protagonist
Of course, fans may be wondering exactly how Megumi Fushiguro is the original protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. Not many fans know that in his early version of Jujutsu Kaisen, just before serialization, Gege Akutami had intended Megumi Fushiguro to be the main character. Megumi was cut out to be Ryomen Sukuna's vessel in the original version, and fans know very well that this carried over into the main story of the Culling Game as well. Yuji Itadori, on the other hand, was meant to be a supporting character with something of one weak relationship with Ryomen Sukuna.
Sukuna, let's start all over again. I will accept you. — Yuji Itadori to Sukuna, Shinjuku Showdown
The nature of the relationship was never described, but it was likely by blood. Finally, Nobara never existed in the original version of Jujutsu Kaisen. Instead, the third member of the group was none other than Tsumiki i Jujutsu Kaisen's original plans. In the end Gege made the changes he did, but all that doesn't matter right now. In fact, Megumi Fushiguro is most definitely dead.
Yuji Itadori is still alive in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
While Megumi Fushiguro has probably passed away in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulothe fact remains Yuji Itadori is still alive. This was recently confirmed in the manga, and it practically means that fans will be seeing more of him soon enough. Yuji has aged a lot in Modulo, and that's probably because he is born of Kenjaku and related to the death paintingswhich even survived over 150 years.
Unlike Yuji, other characters don't have his ability, so they can't cheat death like he does. Hopefully, when Yuji Itadori is reintroduced in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, fans will see him talking about Megumi Fushiguro and even Nobara Kugisaki.
It would be a great touch on Gege's part to have Yuji remember his friends from the past, and probably also reveal to fans how they ended up dying over the years. Given that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a short serialization, this reveal is likely to come very soon, and fans can't wait to see what the future holds for the new main characters.
