Crossover fighters always sound great on paper. The concept of throwing a bunch of beloved characters into an arena and letting them fight their way out appeals to many gamers' base desires, and it hearkens back to heated schoolyard conversations about which superhero could defeat whom in a fight. But while the concept is foolproof, many crossover fighters can stumble into problems when it comes to executing that vision, and that was the case with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Despite having icons like Nathan Drake, Kratos, Raiden, Jak and Daxter and Sackboy, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale couldn't quite stick the landing at launch in 2012. Along with a lack of content, a disappointing story mode, and a fairly small roster, PlayStation All-Stars Battle RoyaleThe KO system drew a lot of heat when it was released, only allowing players to knock out opponents with super moves. As said, a PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale the sequel could do very well in this modern live service era, and it would have a host of new PlayStation icons to use for the roster. But a new addition would probably end up stealing the show.

Astro Bot is an underdog who is finally coming into his own
Astro Bot made its debut in 2013 and has been around a lot longer than some fans may realize. An army of identical Astro Bot clones first appeared in the 2013s The playrooma collection of PS4 minigames designed to showcase the PlayStation Camera and DualShock 4's capabilities. The 2016s The playroom VR brought back the Astro Bots army to showcase the power of PlayStation VR.
Astro Bot's first major breakthrough came in 2018 with the launch of Astro Bot Rescue Missiona PSVR exclusive that received critical acclaim. However, due to the limited installed base of PSVR, Astro Bot still wouldn't be noticed by many gamers until the 2020s Astro's playrooma free-to-play platformer for PlayStation 5 that quickly became a must-have game for all PS5 users due to its tight platforming mechanics, its fan service, and its implementation of DualSense's unique features.
But 2024 has finally given Astro Bot (and developer Team Asobi) the win it rightfully deserves. Released in September, Astro Bot received universal praise, and its recent Game of the Year win at the 2024 Game Awards has finally cemented the character as one of PlayStation's new flagship mascots.
Astro Bot can have some powerful abilities in a PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2
About one PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 were to be released in the near future, Astro Bot would be an almost guaranteed choice for their roster. And while his cute looks may make fans doubt Astro Bot's abilities in battle, appearances can be deceiving.
Astro Bot giving players a wide variety of power-ups during gameplay. Most of these power-ups could be used by Astro as a form of attack in a hypothetical PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2. Astro's Twin-Frog Gloves could hit opponents from afar, while his Barkster the Bulldog jetpack could propel him across the arena. The Monkey Climber power-up could be used to grab objects or throw opponents, and the Elephant Hose-Nose could suck up enemies and launch them from the arena.
Developed by SuperBot Entertainment, All-Stars Battle Royale had a lot of hype behind it in the build-up to launch as it was dubbed as Sony's answer to Super Smash Bros.
The fighting game featured many iconic PlayStation characters, such as Kratos, Nathan Drake, Sackboy and Sly Cooper.
