This structure protects your others from the heat waves that occur on Arcadia-7, and is essentially the main framework for your entire base. However, as you start adding more and more structures, you need to increase the base's core capacity to prevent it from overheating when your base is completely destroyed when a heat wave occurs. How to increase base core capacity in StarRupture

To increase your base core's capabilities, you need to go to the base core structure itself and press E to interact with it. This should bring up a screen where you can choose to upgrade the base core and describe the necessary materials you need to do so. For example, to upgrade your base core to level 2, you need the following materials:

It is not small amounts, nor helium and ceramic materials that you will be able to start producing right at the beginning of the game. As such, you must take advantage of setting up multiple bases across Arcadia-7 to maximize your production efforts.

Alternatively, if you don't have the materials to commit to upgrading your base core that much, you can always use “Base Core Amplifiers” to increase the capacity by a small amount. Both the v.1 and v.2 Base Core boosters are unlocked through Moon Energy Corporation at level 6 and level 9 respectively.

A Base Core booster will increase the capacity of each Base Core placed within its range, meaning you may be able to build an additional structure or two within each base depending on how close you are to maxing out their capacity already.

What does an increase in base core capacity do?

By increasing the core capacity of the base, it basically allows your base to take on more heat and dissipate it faster after a break. This means you can have more structures or “machines” running in a base, allowing you to complete Corporation missions faster. It also means that after a Rupture you can get them all up and running much faster.

However, upgrading your base kernel has a downside. The vermin (read: aliens) on the planet don't take too kindly to your actions and will start attacking your base. This will happen fairly regularly, so you'll want to make sure you've unlocked the recipe to get Turrets and really beef up your base's defenses before upgrading the base core. If the blue-bodied vermin enters your base and explodes, they can infect it, rendering it completely useless until you remove the infection. It might not sound that difficult, but when your base is overwhelmed by pests at the same time, it's no walk in the park.
