How to get more storage space in Hytale

Storage space will always be an issue in games like Hytale. There's always so much stuff to pick up, but thankfully players can upgrade their inventory by crafting Backpack Upgrades. Hytales backpacks are not physical items that players carry. Instead, they act as consumables that unlock extra inventory slots. Once you get your first backpack upgrade, you don't have to worry about crafting another bag for that character again. Unlocking backpack upgrades is pretty easy, but you need to know how to do them first.

The first thing you need to do is upgrade a Workbench to level 2. This will unlock the Unlock Backpack crafting recipe in your Workbench's crafting menu. To upgrade a Workbench, you need the following materials:

  • 30 Copper ingot

  • 20 Iron ingot

  • 20 linen scraps

Upgrades only apply to individual crafting stations. If you want multiple upgraded workbenches, you must upgrade them all separately.

Copper and iron can be mined and melted into ingots in a furnace. In the meantime, you can find linen scraps in Hytale by finding and defeating humanoid enemies such as Skeletons and Trorks.

After upgrading your Workbench, interact with it and go to the Tinkering tab. The recipe for Unlock Backpack is on the bottom line, and to create it you need the following:

  • 8 Iron ingot
  • 16 Medium Leather

Create the upgrade and then put it on your hotbar. Select the Unlock Backpack upgrade in your hotbar, then press the right mouse button to consume it. Doing this unlocks the backpack compartment, which is located to the right of your character's 3D model when you open the inventory screen. Click the third diamond under the Crafting tab to see the contents of your backpack.

You can upgrade your backpack in Hytale even longer if you continue to upgrade your Workbench and create more upgrades. The higher level backpack recipes require the following items:

Backpack Upgrade 1

40 ash scrap

8 Cobalt ingot

24 Heavy leather

Backpack Upgrade 2

1 Voidheart

8 Adamantite Ingot

16 Storm Leather

The materials needed for these upgrades are all pretty high level, so you'll have to go out and explore the world a bit more to find them. For example, you can find Ash Scrap in Hytale found on enemies spawning down in the volcanic layer where lava flows freely.

The standard backpack expands your inventory by 9 slots, which should be enough to store extra tools or excess materials.
