First introduced in Fortnite Chapter 6 The Simpsons Season, the adorable new locker feature lets you bring a pet with you as you battle your way to a Victory Royale.

While Sidekicks won't give you a competitive edge, they're a cute way to customize your cabinet and make your loadout your own. Only you and your team can see your pet, meaning they won't be able to give away your position during a fight! Here's everything you need to know about Sidekicks in Fortnite, including how to get one and how to customize them.

How to get sidekicks in Fortnite

Sidekicks will be available to unlock via Battle Pass, or purchase in the department store and are usually priced around the same as Kicks and some outfits. Your very first sidekick, Peels the dog, appears in The Simpsons Battle Pass from November 1, 2025.

Eventually, more Sidekicks will be revealed, from mini dinosaurs to furry friends and even fish! Once you've purchased your Sidekick from the Item Shop, or unlocked it in the Battle Pass, you can select it in your locker by scrolling down and finding the pet you want to bring with you.

Before you can take it into battle, though, you have to customize your sidekick. You can customize them as soon as you buy or unlock them, or find them in your locker waiting for you.

How to customize your sidekick

Now that you have your Sidekick, it's time to choose how it looks. Go to your locker, choose your pet and click Customize. On the next screen, you'll see a few different options to change, from color, pattern, and ear position. Many of these pets will have slightly different aspects to change, so enjoy the time figuring out what looks best for your cabinet.

You can only customize a Sidekick once. Once customization is locked, you cannot change your pet's basic appearance.

With Peels, the first thing you can change is the ripeness of his banana fur, from green and underripe to very ripe with brown spots. Next, you choose ear positioning, from pointy straight up to flop down, and finally you choose whether he's skinny or a little chunky boy.

There are different extra cosmetics to unlock for each Sidekick when you buy them. To unlock the extras, all you have to do is interact and play with your pet to earn Sidekick points. If you take your pet wherever you go, you can easily accumulate these points quickly. Once you've unlocked cosmetics and emotes for your companion, you can find them in the cabinet.

Each Sidekick can have one Style (outfit), a Reactionand one Against equipped. The reaction is the little heart that appears when you pat your Sidekick.

Your sidekick can't accompany you to every Fortnite experience, especially many of the creative maps, but they can accompany you on these Epic Games modes:

  • Battle Royale (Solo, Duo, Trio and Squads)

  • Ranked Battle Royale

  • Zero building

  • Ranked with zero build

  • Fortnite AND

  • Fortnite Delulu

  • Fortnite Brick Life

  • Reload

  • Ranked reload

When playing, with the Sidekick equipped, you earn Sidekick points. The more points you earn, the more you unlock for your pet, including:

  • Loading screens

  • Emoticons

  • Outfits

  • Banner icons

  • Dance emotes

When you're happy with the look of your Sidekick, lock it up! You are now the owner of your very own Fortnite pet and are ready to take on the lobby together.

When you play, you can see your sidekick reacts to different situations in the game. They will be sad when you are wounded, happy when you open chests, and angry or focused during a fight. When you express emotions, they will dance with you, and you can pet them whenever you want.

Thankfully, your pet can't be seen or harmed by enemy players, and since they can't be seen, they won't give away your position. The only people who can see your Sidekick are you and your team. You can pat each other's Sidekicks, and feel together!
