With Dragonite gets a Mega in Pokemon Legends: ZAthere is no doubt that this already very popular Pokémon will be on everyone's catch list. But as you might have already expected, acquiring Dragonite is no easy task.
Since Dragonite is an incredibly strong Pokemon, it's usually hard to get access to even Dratini early in a Pokemon game. However, there is somewhere you can grab a Dratini not long after starting the game, if you're willing to do a little parkour.
Where to find Dratini
While a large majority of Pokémon in Legends: ZA can be found in Wild Zones, Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite cannot. If you want to catch a Dratini, or possibly a Dragonair, you have to go to Lumiose's rooftop.
Although there is a chance you can find Dratini hanging on several rooftops if you just explore, there are some confirmed spawn locations you can check out at the start of the game, and they can be seen in the table below:

Le Nah Restaurant (Vert Sector 6) |
To reach the roof of Le Nahyou have to climb the ladder attached to the building directly to the south of it on the map. Once you're at the top, walk along the edge and then perform a dodge roll forwardwhich will push you far enough to reach the roof of Le Nah, where Dratini awaits. |

|
Bleu sector 9 |
To reach ceiling at Bleu Sector 9you have to go to the small triangle patch of grass directly between Bleu Sector 6, Bleu Sector 9 and Bleu Sector 10. Here, you should see a construction platform you can climb connected to Bleu Sector 6. At the top, this will place you on the roof of Bleu Sector 6. This roof connects to Bleu Sector 8, so make your way over to that roof using the connected part in the middle. Once at the top of Sector 8, go to the northwest part of the roof to find a bridge leads to Bleu Sector 9. On top of Bleu Sector 9, go to the northwest corner to find a Dratini, or if you're lucky, a Dragonair. |

|
Magenta sector 8 |
In Magenta Sector 8 there will be a building with a Magenta Pokemon Center in it. On the south side of this building you will find a Holovator. Take the Holovator to the roofwhere you then need walk across a bridge to the roof of the next building. From this roof, you need to reach the roof north of you, but there won't be a bridge. Instead, you must get as close to the edge as you can and perform a dodge to propel yourself across the gap and up on the other roof. Once on the second roof, take the steps and move on until you eventually reach a ceiling with lots of bell shots. Among them you will find a unique Dratini. |
|
|
Jaune sector 3 |
To get hold of this Dratini, you need the Roto-Glide featurewhich are unlocked through story progression. Once you have it, you have to do it go up the building next door and then use Roto-Glide to reach the building it lives on. |

There is a chance that any of these Dratini can play as a Dragonair insteadbut it is rare. In addition, any of them can also appear as an Alpha Pokémonduring the day and at night.
How to catch Dratini
Unfortunately, Dratini is a pretty boring Pokemon to catch. Not only does it have a low catch rate, but it also has tends to run away if you fail to catch it the first time. So, don't expect to visit any of these places and catch it the first time.
The odds are, it will take you several tries to successfully catch oneespecially an alpha. The best method, although still not good, is to use a Pokemon with a move strong enough to knock it out at the first or second meeting. This will instantly stun it for a moment, allowing you to throw a Poké Ball at it.
Dratini are easily surprised, so be sure that whether you attack or throw a ball, you sneak up on it.
If you go straight to throw, and it doesn't catch, you must have another ball ready to throw as soon as it reappears. If it escapes, you have to wait a full day for it to respawn in that place. Of course, you can speed it up by resting on a bench. Regardless of your method, catching Dratini will require a tremendous amount of patience.
How to Evolve Dratini into Dragonite
Dratini evolve the same way a large majority of Pokemon are, through leveling. Unfortunately, Dragon types often have some of the highest requirements to fully evolve, and Dragonite is no exception.

How to get Dragoninite to Mega Evolve Dragonite
While many of the Mega Stones can be purchased at Quasartico Inc., Dragoninite cannot. Instead, you must keep going through the story until you get the chance to encounter a Rogue Mega Dragonite.
Like all other Rogue Megas, once it's defeated, you'll be rewarded with its Mega Stone. Once you have the stone, simply give it to your Dragonite to hold, and you'll be able to use its Mega form in Pokemon Legends: ZA.
