How to create a multiplayer server

When playing co-op in StarRupture, you have to decide which player to be host. The host is the person who sets up and creates the game and is responsible for inviting everyone else. When creating the game, the host can choose between 'Invite only' and “Friends Only”. The only difference between these options is that “Invite Only” requires the host to physically invite you to the session, and it prevents other Steam friends from joining on their own.

To invite a player, the host must enter the game and press 'Esc' to bring up the menu. From here, on the right, they will see their username and three blank spaces. They must select one of these locations and invite someone via Steam option that automatically pops up. The player will receive a message via Steam with a link to join the game.

The game session will be saved on the host's computer, and while this usually means that others can only play when the host allows, there is an option to keep the server open to everyone at all times. This is called SaveSync.

Multiplayer games are limited to four players: the host and three other players. Currently, this limit cannot be increased.

StarRupture can be a pretty intimidating game if you're not used to factory simulators, but it can be a lot easier if you keep a few things in mind.

How to host SaveSync to play offline

SaveSync is a software used by players on Steam to “keep cooperative worlds alive” when the host is offline. It allows you to join and play the game in the same co-op world without the host, and is available for purchase on Steam itself.

After installing the software and saving the game, exit StarRupture and launch SaveSync from your Steam library. When the software opens, select StarRupture from the left side and click New Save to the right. All your saved sessions will be displayed, select the one you want and click Create Save.

The save starts to synchronizeand you will know when it is ready because it will display a green tick. Choose Share icon (which is six options opposite the tick) and find your teammates' Steam usernames. Click on the username and share.

Once the host has synced the correct save file and shared it with you, open SaveSync via your Steam library. If done correctly, you will see the shared save in your playlist when you click on StarRupture in SaveSync. Select Activate on the shared save file, and this makes it available for you to use without a host.

Anyone on the team who wants to use the same world when the host is offline must also purchase and install SaveSync.
