MIO: Memories In Orbit is a prime example of building on smaller parts of a whole that, combined, can help you beat a much stronger opponent. You'll encounter the perfect example of this early on in your adventure through MIO, when you face the Flora boss, also known as the Sentient Pearltrap.
If you haven't experimented with the double jump mechanic and used it to string together attacks at different heights, this boss will be your crash course in aerial combat. Prepare for a slow introduction in phase one before your aerial abilities are pushed to the limit in phase two by the Flora boss.
How to Find & Defeat Flora Phase One
To get to Floran, enter the door to the right of the attuner save point i Wild undergrowth Area. Follow the lower path, then cross a poisonous lake and continue walking down until you cross the threshold into Flora's lair.
This boss will be a big test of your jumping and Hairpin skills, more than anything else, although you do have to keep an eye on the boss's movements to know where you need to dodge.
You can jump into the fight early and land a few hits on the boss before they start attacking you properly. Not every hit will count, as the damage is only registered when the boss's HP bar starts charging.
During phase one you must watch out for these main attacks:
-
A full floor sweep attack
-
A two or three vines combo attack
-
A mouth Result
-
Temporary regurgitation, projectile attacks
Keep jumping while you are near Flora so you can reach it with your attacks. When you see the boss exit for an attack, the safest thing to do is rush to the left side of the screen and prepare to jump.
Keep attacking until Flora reaches about half HP, at which point the music will change, and the manager moves to phase two.

How to defeat Flora Phase Two
To begin the second phase, Flora spews a small pool of blue bile in front of her, which will hurt you if you land in it, forcing you to ensure your antenna attack and double jump timing is in place.
Although it is a scary idea, the best way to avoid damage is to stay close to Flora by taking a jump to get close and then continuing to attack repeatedly to maintain your height and deal damage to Flora.
The boss struggles to hit you with most of its vine attacks if you stay close to it. Only a maw lunge attack can effectively hit you from in tight.
Each attack you land will refresh your jump, so you can reposition MIO with your double jump and then continue to attack if you want to maintain an aggressive style.
Don't forget to use the hairpin if you run out of hope, as it will launch you out of harm's way if timed well. Keep jumping in after each attack to get your hits in on Flora, repeating the rest, jump and attack cycle until Flora is finally defeated.
When you Defeat Flora, you will receive the following rewards:
-
An NPC summoned Personal assistant
-
The Aviaries Passepartout
Time to head to Aviaries with your new access.
