Since domain expansion is considered the best of what a magician can achieve with jujutsu and for good reasons.

Jujutsu Kaisen: What is heavenly restriction?
We look at how this binding promise works in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Although every person in Jujutsu Kaisen universe (magician or not) is born with an innate domain inside them, only Jujutsu is a magician who can exploit and expand the real power of the innate domain to expand their to an endless domain.
What is an innate domain?
If you are familiar with the concept of Mind Palace, you have probably seen it in different eastern media before JJK. It is based on a real phenomenon known as the method of IOCI, which urges to audit the world around you to remember important information, and it is used in philosophy all the time that begins as far back as ancient Greece and ancient Rome. Other well-known Eastern IPs like the Persona series also use the concept and present themselves as “palaces” and dungeons in the games.
Domains are exactly like these sensory paragraphs: they are spaces in the brain that present metaphysically and offer a picture of the domain owner's soul. In Jujutsu Kaisen's world everyone has an innate domain, but you have to be a magician in order to really utilize your power. It seems that ordinary people are not aware of their domains, but lots of powerful jujutsu trolls know their own, because domain expansion is the most powerful ability in JJK's world.
Since Yuji and Sukuna both parts Yuji's body, the inactive character is within their own innate domain while the other has control. However, Sukuna's domain is special because he does not need a physical barrier to expand it.
What is domain expansion?
Just as it sounds, the domain extension pushes the boundaries of an innate domain to include the surrounding area, locked up by a barrier to keep the real world completely separated from the devastation that is completely guaranteed to occur within. For anyone who remains beyond the boundaries of these expanded domains, they look like a black sphere, but everyone who is caught inside will see the magician for the magician with domain expansion. A magician must make a specific hand movement to perform domain extension.
These domains are fully infused with the user's damn energy, and therefore the owner of the domain is much more powerful when fighting within their expanded domain. When an enemy is captured inside them (and possible escape from a domain extension, everything is except hopeless except the most powerful jujutsu fighters), all attacks come by the magician use 100 percent of the time and with the increased power level, making it an incredibly powerful combat tool.
If two domains are active at the same time, as a countermeasure against being captured in another user's domain, the more powerful of the two domains will win out. The more extreme the power imbalance between the two, the faster the submission of the weaker domain.
Jujutsu trolls use domain expansion quite often in battle throughout the current story in JJK, but historically, domains were not always intended to be used – they were used to force someone into submission, but they became deadly in time because more magicians learned how far they could push the boundaries for their domains. Kinji Hakari still uses domain extension in this way, plays Pachinko and goes into impossible mode when he hits the jackpot (because the odds to hit one are stacked completely against him).
Using domain extension drastically Reduces the magician's cursed energy, but leaves them quite tired afterwards, so it is often used as a last resort. The number of domain extension we see throughout the series is limited because of this.
