A Horizon The MMORPG has been officially revealed, but not everyone is happy with the details of what has been announced. Rumors of a multiplayer Horizon the game has been circulating the industry for over half a decade, with Guerrilla Games itself hinting at its existence in a 2020 job listing asking for experience creating open-world multiplayer games.
But this newly announced MMORPG might not be the live service Horizon the game Guerrilla has reportedly worked on. Instead this Horizon The MMORPG seems like a completely different project being developed by a completely different studio and made with a different audience in mind.
Horizon Steel Frontiers is an MMORPG not released on PlayStation 5
On November 13, during Korea's G-Star 2025 gaming conference, developer NCSoft revealed Horizon Steel Frontiersan MMORPG set in Horizon the universe is created in collaboration with Guerrilla Games. This Horizon The MMORPG will see players take on the role of a machine hunter located deep in the Deadlands. Along with a server full of allies and rivals in the real world, players will take on gigantic machines Monster Hunter– as raid boss battles, create and customize your equipment and ride a variety of machines to explore the hidden secrets of the Deadlands. Neither NCSoft, Guerrilla nor Sony have confirmed Horizon Steel Frontiersplace in the franchise timeline, or if characters like Aloy, Erend, or Sylens will appear.
Fixed Horizon Steel Frontiers looks suitably impressive in its announcement trailer, it has garnered instant controversy among Horizon fans because of its optional platforms. Horizon Steel Frontiers will be an iOS, Android and PC platform title, with players on all platforms sharing the same world. A PlayStation 5 or 4 version has not been mentioned in the official PlayStation Blog announcement for Horizon Steel Frontiersits developer commentary trailer or the game's official website. Of course, many fans have expressed their disappointment at the lack of a console launch, and it's easy to see why given that Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West were originally PlayStation exclusives, and that Horizon franchise as a whole is primarily known as a first-party PlayStation IP.
This is the second time in recent days that Sony has announced a mobile-focused multiplayer spinoff of a traditional single-player series, with Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble revealed for iOS and Android on November 12. Although NCSoft has a solid track record of delivering great MMO experiences such as Lineage and Guild Warsit's just natural for some Horizon fans to be a little skeptical of the recently announced MMORPG given its shift away from the series' PlayStation and single-player roots.
