Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is undoubtedly the most historically accurate game ever made. But it is still a game, with games and practice that always comes first. Therefore, there are some historical errors in KCD2But in almost all cases, Warhorse Studios has talked about these changes in history and explained their decision.
The game's incredible KodX, which is full of medieval information and facts about Kuttenberg and the rest of Bohemia, also explains some of these historical errors. Thus the purpose of this article is not to stab holes in the masterpiece that is Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2but rather to make players aware of what is real and what is not, so that they can learn about the Middle Ages.
Some historical events and characters have been moved around
This was done to give the story more structure
Real events do not always have a nicely structured beginning, middle and climatic end with the time of character bows. Therefore, historical events and some deaths must be moved to give the two Kingdom Come: Deliverance Plays a more satisfying story, which begins with Ransacking of Henry's village, Skalitz, and then ends with him lifting the siege of Suchdol.
But historically, the siege of Suchdol occurred at the end of 1402, rather than the summer of 1403, and even had a different result, where the Pragsams succeeded. Markvart von Aulitz (Markvart from Ulice) really died during this siege. But that means he was not alive for the raid on Skalitz in the spring of 1403 and the rest of the two KCD2 game. Hans Capon (Jan Ptacek from Pirkstejn) would also have been about 15 at that time, but he was aged up to 20 and included in important events for a good game. All of these characters have their own Codex posts in KCD2.
There are no children, which also means any children's goods or clothing
They are absent because of how long and expensive it would be to make new models and animations
The lack of children is not a historical inaccuracy of KCD2 In itself, but more of an understandable dip in immersion. There are two main reasons why they were not included. First, new character models would need to be made, along with clothing, as well as animations, including those for adults NPCs who can bend or look down to talk to a child, all of whom take time and money.
Second, in a game where almost all NPC can be killed, the presence of children is more problematic, especially if players could use mods to disable existing protection. But their absence also means that there are no historical objects associated with medieval children. For example, when you go into a house, the whole picture is not painted due to a lack of rock, toys and children's clothing, which would of course have meant more work.
The lack of tight spiral stairs and small castle doors
These are not good with video game cameras and checks
Apart from one or two inside the Italian court there are virtually no spiral stairs in KCD2Although they are a historically popular way to save space and stone in a castle. However, the developers have said that their omission is intentionally, as these confined spaces would make games, especially battle, clumsy.
Even in the first person, these spiral stairs would not be good to navigate, and with the world being full of NPCs about its business, Henry could easily get stuck. For similar reasons, there are also not many small castle doors and other similar architectural functions. However, all of these have been replaced with authentic alternatives.
A Jewish block and synagogue was not in Kuttenberg 1403
However, many medieval cities had Jewish neighborhoods
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Do a good job of portraying how culturally multiple Europe was in the Middle Ages, with characters from a variety of areas, as well as depictions of the Roman and Jewish peoples. When players reach Kuttenberg, they will also notice that there is a Jewish neighborhood, including a synagogue.
Although this is completely authentic during the time period and the place, with many large medieval cities with Jewish neighborhoods, Kuttenberg did not have one at present. This is mentioned in the relevant Codex post, which notes that synagogue in Kuttenberg was not built until 1881. The game also shows a pogrom against the Jews in Kuttenberg, of which there were unfortunately many during the Middle Ages.
City guards in small villages
They are there to prevent Henry from committing crimes uncontrolled
Although it would probably have been a city guard in the large city of Kuttenberg, especially with an army stationed there during turbulent times, it cannot be said that the same can be said for small villages. The cost of having several strongly armored men who protected 24 hours a day would have cost a lot of money. Instead, the night watchman would be more likely, with individuals either voted for the position or with men who earn their time on different days. For small villages, like Tachov, this is even less likely.
Of course for gaming reasons and to take advantage of KCD2's Exceptional system for crime and punishment, a city guard is needed everywhere to keep Henry's crime in check. Interestingly, however, some of the braver and armed villagers confront Henry after the hue and crying have been raised.
