With Highguards release date just days away, developer Wildlight Entertainment is finally breaking its silence to announce a special showcase with an in-depth look at its gameplay, post-launch plans over the next year, and more. It's been a very strange journey too Highguardafter the initial announcement, it got people excited when it was revealed that Wildlight Entertainment has former developers who worked on beloved titles like Titanfall and Apex Legends. But the gameplay trailer that followed had more than a few people scratching their heads.
Unfortunately, since the disclosure of Highguard at The Game Awards 2025, Wildlight Entertainment appears to have adopted a strategy of complete radio silence. Details have been nearly impossible to come by, with most people simply judging the game solely on what was shown in the first trailer. The footage seems to be consistent with online hero shooters, as two teams battle each other in an attempt to be the first to destroy the opposing base. Described as a “raid shooter”, players can use mounts like horses to cover ground faster, fight enemies with weapons and abilities, while also trying to claim the Shieldbreaker sword to summon an assault to invade the enemy base. Thankfully, it looks like fans will finally get answers, even if the timing of it is a little odd.
Highguard was the “One Last Thing” announcement at the Game Awards, and it apparently didn't even pay for the spot

Highguard announces an in-depth showcase for next week

Over a month after its initial reveal and then complete silence, developer Wildlight Entertainment has finally emerged and announced plans for an in-depth look at Highguard on January 26 at 10 a.m. PT. In just his fourth tweet since the game was announced, Wildlight promised fans listening in that they'd get an in-depth look at Highguardincluding a full deep dive into the game, the studios plans for the first year of content and much more. Many of the comments on the announcement were people commenting on the strange marketing strategy, announcing the game and then basically going dark for the next month right before launch.
The odd thing about this announcement is that the scheduled time for the showcase is the same day the game is supposed to launch to the public. It is very possible that the game could then be launched right after the showcase ends. It seems that Wildlight may be trying to pull off a similar launch as the Respawn shadow fell Apex Legendswhich would make sense considering the studio has a lot of veteran developers from that studio. Still, Apex Legends seemingly came out of nowhere prior to the announcement and launch, subject only to internet rumors and leaks, while HIghguard was fully revealed in December 2025 at The Game Awards to what appeared to be a lukewarm reception.
The message comes the next day Highguardthe trophies leaked, revealing new information based on each one's description. Players noted five different classes, presumably each with different abilities that can be used to help their team not only defend their base, but also attempt to storm the enemy. There's also some kind of unique weapon called the BigRig LMG, which is likely to favor sometime in the middle of a match where both sides can try to claim it. The weapon sounds like it will give a huge advantage to the team that claims it, as there is a trophy called Suppressive Fire that can be earned after destroying at least 3 “Iron Walls” with it in a single match.
Regardless, fans won't have to wait much longer to not only learn about the game, but actually get on with it. The good news here is that Highguard is completely free to play, so if the game looks at all interesting, especially after the showcase, there's no barrier for players to jump in.
