Heroism and other prominent themes in my hero academia

The Thist list contains spoilers for my hero Academy

In order for a story to stick to the audience long after they have finished it, it must have underlying themes that shine through in the story. As the name suggests, My hero Academy is an extremely popular anime series that largely revolves around the idea of heroism, and all the many different forms it can take, but it is not the only message and meaning that the author Kohei Horikoshi has baked into his story.

In fact, when you look deeper at the story and the characters, there are a lot of fascinating themes that readers and viewers can take up, all of which go a long way to raise the story by creating a stronger connection to the audience. Now when My hero Academy Manga is over, and Anime reaches its last season, it feels like the perfect opportunity to reflect on the series, and more specifically the underlying themes that are most obvious in the story.

Hard work beats natural talent

By putting in time and effort, anyone can achieve amazing things

Being born without a property can already make someone feel like a outrage in society, but there are also many characters in My hero Academy which has properties that may initially seem unusable or simply ineffective in battle. However, the series has lots of individuals who, even though they have properties that seem unhappy at first, managed to put enough time and effort to make them worth something. Although this obviously applies to Deku, who has gradually learned to master one for all and the other properties that accompanied, is a brilliant example of this Mirio, which is introduced at about halfway in history.

Mirio's Quirk, which allows him to be completely intangible for a few seconds, was considered more curse than a blessing when he was still young. As someone who desperately wanted to be a reliable hero, Mirio took the time to find out how he could use his sling effectively when he was in a fight, which eventually allowed him to rise through the trail to become one of the big three in UA. Quirks can be naturally gifted abilities, but the series places a great focus on the astonishing amount of work that someone still needs to put in to actually use these abilities properly.

Prepares the next generation

PRO heroes must ensure that their students are ready to take their place

Pro heroes in My hero Academy Are known to be some of the strongest characters in the series, but the truth is that the majority of them start near their retirement age. Therefore, it is very important that they can prepare their students and agency apprentices to be fully prepared for the world in front of them, because if they do a bad job, it will give future villains the opportunities to take over the country without any problems.

This theme can be seen in a broad sense with how Pro Heroes teaches and educates the students in the UA Academy, but the most obvious way that it is implemented in the story is through a specific property, one for all. This devastating quirk has been transferred for several generations, mainly acting as a spark of hope that has been moved to another person several times until they eventually reach Deku, who goes into their own journey to save the country from everything for one.

Justice

Who deserves to face real punishment?

Although it would be easy to assume that the heroes in the story are automatically the good guys, when the series continues, it is becoming clear that maybe justice is not as served in this world as fans may initially have thought. There are several indications of this scattered throughout history, but one of the most famous is during Dabi's dance, where the villain reveals how hawks had recently killed a villain in cold blood, and also how the pursuit abused Dabi and his other children when they were younger.

While many of the villains will be severely punished for their crimes, there are some heroes who managed to get away with their actions without consequence. This forces fans to think about how just the world of My hero Academy Really is, and if it is actually fair to heroes, who can be considered unethical in their actions, to still be as famous and productive as they are.

Imitation

Following others may be useful, but it can also be unhealthy

At the beginning of the series, Deku is completely obsessed with all power, to the point where he would do almost anything for a day to be a strong as the main hero. His fandom is ultimately what allowed him to make such a strong impression on all power when they first met, which would then give him his very own downturn, but when the time passed it became clear that Deku needed to start presenting himself as his own hero rather than just a cheap imitation. Therefore, although it was definitely useful for him to look up to all power to give him a rupture of inspiration, it is still important that every hero becomes sure of their own abilities to show what they are really made of.

The theme for imitation and copying of others can also be seen in a slightly different way with Toga, which can physically adopt the appearance of anyone whose blood she manages to consume. For Toga, imitation is extremely unhealthy, considering when she copies her face and ability of another character, she often ends up killing many people in the process. Therefore, while imitation of someone can be useful to begin with, it should not last too long.

Regret

The pursuit is desperately trying to compensate for their previous sins

To say that endeavor was a bad father for his younger children would put it easy. In a desperate attempt to try to trump his rival All Might, Endeavors' goal was to produce a child who would be strong enough to one day reach the first place, but when he did this he pushed his children far beyond their boundaries, to the point where he even began to physically abuse them. When the endeavor itself could reach all MYDHT's position in the story, he goes into a long and difficult journey with conversion that sees the fiery hero try to find a way to compensate for everything he has done in his past.

In fact, the story puts a massive focus on this theme, considering how difficult it is for someone, even someone who is as physically overwhelming as the endeavor, to somehow compensate for their abominable actions against their own family. It is difficult to forgive the pursuit of everything he put toa and the others through, but it is up to the fans to decide if they think he really managed to repent after the amount of effort and self -sacrifice he made to compensate for his mistakes.

Goes beyond your limits

Blast through expectations and blow away the competition

This is a theme that is obvious in many Shonen -Anime series, but it is particularly widespread in My hero Academy. It is difficult to keep track of how many times Deku, even though he was seriously exceeded in a battle, has barely managed to scrape through thanks to his pure willpower and determination, to have a furious fire inside him that just won't let him go down no matter how tough his opponent is. Similarly, there have also been many characters throughout the story that have screamed the words “plus ultra” when releasing a final attack, which mainly means that they pass their boundaries.

The whole idea of crushing the expectations of others and going beyond is very clear to see in My hero AcademyAnd that is largely what makes the series so inspiring. It is difficult not to be pumped when you see all the power or decu that gives every last piece of energy they have to take down a dangerous villain and encourage viewers and readers to also do their absolute best in everything they do.

Heroism

The series dives deep into what to be a hero really means

On the surface, many would assume being a hero simply means being a good person and protecting the world from danger, but My hero Academy Have shown that there is much more to this title than meets the eye. A prominent character that encourages fans to think a little more about heroism is stain, a villain who takes on itself to kill heroes who have only reached the title to get wealth and fame, rather than actually want to help others. Similarly, Nagant also notices the term itself, since she was once a hero, she was also ordered to kill hundreds of people behind the scenes and show that maybe the hero community is not as glamorous as it may seem.

On the other hand, however, heroism is presented in a very favorable and positive light by many of the other characters. Although the biggest example of this is obviously all Might, which always provides everything to protect civilians from danger, there are also characters like Jiro, who manage to become a hero not through physical strength, but by using their musical talents to get laughter and joy to these around. Of course, Horikoshi goes very deeply on what to be a hero really means throughout the series and explore many different paths when it comes to what makes a hero and morality in their actions.
