As I reported earlier this week, the new Battlefield 6 update 1.1.3.0 and its coinciding Winter Offensive limited time mode and battle pass have completely broken the game. When I wrote the news about how poorly the update had been received, I was worried about being hyperbolic when I said that the update “broke everything,” but it turns out that the update really did break quite a few things. Not quite all… but almost.
I love this game and want it to succeed. But for the purpose of compiling everything that is reportedly and apparently broken in the game currently, here is a complete list.
Tap Registration
Don't be afraid now. The 1.1.3.0 patch notes stated that Battlefield Studios had addressed hit registration. It did it. In some games it feels amazing, like in the beta. In others, it is absolutely terrible. You can really tell the difference between two different games. Enemies you killed in the last game now walk away with tons of health left for some godforsaken reason. Just another argument for why persistent servers are needed.
Battlefield 6 is an exhausting game, and there's an obvious reason for that
Battlefield 6 is tiring to play, but it doesn't have to be.
Sound bugs
The patch notes also suggested that the dev team had addressed footsteps sounds to make them clearer. By doing so, it seems that the rest of the game has become strangely silent. The footsteps are much clearer now, don't get me wrong, but this increased volume makes it pretty obvious that directional audio still isn't working as intended. Sometimes it sounds like there's a player next to you even if they're three rooms away on the second floor of a building.
I've also experienced lots of weird ambient sound bugs, like the sound of freezing in Ice Lock modes, or a strong wind blowing throughout the entire round of Siege of Cairo. I have adjusted all my settings. That's no idea.
The main menu does not work
This one is just awesome. I thought I would log in today and the menu would be fixed. But it's still broken, so much so that I still can't choose which mode I want to play. After some restarts (four times this time) I managed to select the Ice Lock Domination mode I need to complete some challenges. This needs to be fixed ASAP.
Invisible hands and missing gun accessories
My hands are missing and the front half of my Mini Scout is gone. Not even sure what would have caused this, and it's pretty funny. The M44 Magnum actually feels great to use when you have ghost hands, it turns out.
Scoreboard freezes when rebuilding
I open the scoreboard compulsively and have done so in every Battlefield game since the early days. I can't do this now. If you open the scoreboard when you respawn, you'll be stuck on the scoreboard indefinitely and you'll have to restart your game to get out.
The shooting range is even worse
I have no idea how the shooting range becomes even more broken when it feels like a fairly unimportant part of the game. After the last patch, dummies no longer returned to their upright position when you shot them. Now the hit government in the shooting range is just completely crazy. You can aim half a mile from the target and still hit it.
Freezes and stutters
I've seen several reports of freezing, stuttering and rubberbanding since the update. I haven't experienced it myself but have seen plenty of clips on the internet to confirm that this is indeed a major problem. According to the Battlefield Comms X account, it might have something to do with your friends list on Steam.
The breakthrough is unplayable
I've been ranting about breakthrough for over two months now and at this point it's funny how disconnected the changes are from the actual player base. As of the new update, I've seen a round of Liberation Peak where the attacking team had seven active vehicles! Four tanks and two IFVs. This is unplayable. Horrible design decisions here and even worse balancing.
The storage bag is broken
The Supply Pouch has been one of my favorite items since the start of the game, and now that it's a) sunk into oblivion, removing the instant heal, and b) completely broken, and basically stunning your character so they can't shoot for a second after throwing it, the supply pouch goes straight to the trash.
Rubber band
I've seen plenty of reports of rubber banding since the new update, including the perpetual presence of the miserable “yellow circle” that appears in the top left corner of the screen. One more thing to fix.
Defibrillators still broken
The defibrils have been broken for a while now. And they still are. It's so frustrating to see three or medics trying to bring you back to life only for one of them to give up and try to pull you, only for you all to die because the whole process has taken so long. This further discourages playing medic, which is a shame as it is the most important role in most game modes.
BF Pro users are missing rewards
I've seen several reports on Steam forums and reddit that Battlefield 6 Pro users are missing rewards from the BF Pro reward track. This has not been fixed since the game's launch.
Questionable textures
I have no idea what's going on with this one. I run the game on max graphics and regularly hit somewhere between 120 and 200 FPS. It's a pretty well optimized game, after all, but recent updates have filled my game with so many weird textures. Sometimes it's the rectangular wheel on a car, or an enemy player that appears to me to be a Roblox character.
Overall, it's a pretty terrible show. The game feels a little nicer since the update, and I appreciate the extra ten frames per second or so I get, but other than that, the game hasn't been fun to play. I wonder if we'll actually get a hotfix before the holidays or if this is just the game we'll have to deal with until early next year. I really hope not.
