The first detail about GTA 6's online mode has been revealed thanks to Rockstar's ongoing legal case over the 34 employees it recently fired.
You might think we know next to nothing about Grand Theft Auto 6 considering it's slated to launch in just over 10 months, but that's nothing compared to the next iteration of GTA Online. Since GTA 6's release, Rockstar hasn't said anything about what to expect from GTA 6's online mode.
Sure, we can assume a lot about it based on what we know about GTA 6 and GTA Online, but in terms of official announcements, we haven't had anything in the years since GTA 6 was first announced. Well, while Rockstar is keeping its cards close to its chest, the first bit of information has been shared thanks to a recent court hearing.
We finally know Something About GTA 6 Online
Rockstar is so secretive that even its spokesperson would not share the details of the lawsuit
As you probably know by now, Rockstar Games recently went to court with the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain over the alleged union busting that took place a few months ago. Rockstar claimed that the developers were fired for leaking details in a union Discord channel, which led to them not having to pay the fired employees.
What GTA 6's delay means for the gaming industry
The entire release calendar moves every time GTA 6 does, so how will the latest delay affect everything else?
In arguing that it wasn't union busting, Rockstar inadvertently confirmed earlier leaks about GTA 6. As pointed out by RockstarINTEL and originally reported by People Make Games, one of the leaks shared in court actually has to do with GTA 6's online mode, which a Rockstar legal spokesperson asked a judge to look at in private.
Despite this, People Make Games was able to see the court documents and revealed that the “highly confidential” detail regarding GTA 6's Online is that it will support lobbies for up to 32 players. One of the fired employees shared a message that it was a “big session” that was “hard to do” with 32 players.
In comparison, GTA Online lobbies support 30 players with two spectator slots. It is not clear if the 32 here also includes those spectators.
It's a very small detail in the grand scheme of things that really only tells us that GTA 6's online will have a similar amount of players to GTA Online (at least in the mode the employee was talking about, which could have a higher or lower size than standard matches), but it's still interesting as our first legitimate piece of information about GTA 6 Online.
Larian needs to fix Wyll before it moves on from Baldur's Gate 3
Adding more lines for Wyll – and making sure they play correctly – should have been the focus of a Baldur's Gate 3 patch.
