Rockstar Games has pulled back the curtain on the next big patch for Grand Theft Auto Onlinenot only confirming that the free content update will be released on Wednesday, December 10, but also surprising fans with the return of Michael De Santa, one of the three main characters from Grand Theft Auto 5. There have long been rumors and theories that Michael would return in a new one Grand Theft Auto Online update, and just when players were starting to lose faith, Rockstar brought back the icon for one last hurray.

It has now been twelve years since the fans got to experience Grand Theft Auto 5 story, with Michael, Franklin and Trevor. Although there were initially plans for single-player DLCs, one of which went into production and focused on Trevor becoming an undercover agent for the FIB, Rockstar canceled them, likely to put their resources into Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Redemption 2. New GTA Online update is released on December 10th

After months of rumors and leaks, Rockstar finally revealed the long-awaited Mansions update for Grand Theft Auto Online last month. Very few details about the patch were shared at the time, but the studio has now published a new blog post and trailer for “A Safehouse in the Hills.” Not only has it now been confirmed that the update will arrive on Wednesday, December 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, but the short trailer also shocked fans as Michael De Santa will officially return, twelve years after he was last seen in Grand Theft Auto 5.

It's currently unclear how significant Michael's role will be in the upcoming update, but he appears several times throughout the latest trailer, suggesting it will be similar to Franklin's role in GTA onlineThe update of the contract. According to the blog post that accompanied the trailer, “A Safehouse in the Hills” will be a “monumental” update, adding Prix Luxury Real Estate to the game, allowing players to purchase a new mansion with expansive outdoor spaces and meticulously designed interiors with a state-of-the-art AI assistant to assist with professional and personal tasks that maximize players' potential. Fans can also expect tons of new missions, vehicles, upgrades and more.

With the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 Now less than a year away, fans are eager to know what the future holds Grand Theft Auto Online. While Rockstar Games has yet to confirm whether the progress will carry over to a successor, if the current iteration will somehow evolve alongside Grand Theft Auto 6or about a new one Grand Theft Auto Online the game will launch with brand new content, forcing players to start all over again. Unfortunately, it will likely be quite a while before fans find out.

When the next installment in the series was first revealed all the way back in 2023, Rockstar Games told fans that it was targeting a fall 2025 release window. Given the studio's track record, no one expected that to be the case. Therefore, it was not surprising when the game was delayed to May 26, 2026. But then the real concern began when talk of yet another delay began to circulate online, followed by confirmation from Rockstar that it would indeed push back Grand Theft Auto 6release date again. The highly anticipated title will now launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. That's assuming, of course, that there are no more delays.
