Sony confirmed it Ghost of Yotei has managed to surpass its predecessor's sales and contributed “significantly” to the company's overall financial performance. Sugar Punch's Ghost of Yotei has enjoyed great success since its launch on October 2, 2025. In addition to great reviews, Ghost of Yotei were nominated for numerous year-end awards, while apparently managing to be a blockbuster for Sony as well.
The PlayStation 5 exclusive also reportedly had a very strong start, with reports suggesting that Ghost of Yotei earned over $140 million in revenue just 3 days after launch. That would mean that Ghost of Yotei was able to recoup its development budget twice over, but at the time it seemed that the game was lagging slightly behind its predecessor in terms of sales. As it turns out, it seems that the game continued to sell very well, likely because Sony was so happy with it, given that it was the big flagship title for Q4 2025 and represented a large part of its financial results at the end of the year.
“It saddened me the day I had to kill that one” Ghost of Yotei cut a major movie before release
Ghost of Yotei's creative director Jason Connell revealed a feature that was cut long before launch, but was ultimately the right decision.
Ghost of Yotei has sold out Ghost of Tsushima
Sony's CFO, Lin Tao, recently confirmed that Ghost of Yotei sold 3.3 million units in the first 32 days it went on sale. Even better, Tao revealed that “Ghost of Yotei, a tentpole title we released in October, exceeded sales of the previous title in the same time period and contributed significantly to the quarter's financial performance.” By “same period of time” it is assumed that Tao refers Ghost of Tsushimathe first 32 days of being on sale as well, although the game would eventually reach 5 million copies sold in just under 4 months.
What makes this even more impressive is that at the time Ghost of Tsushima launched for the PlayStation 4, the console had already been out for 7 years at that point and had a larger base of gamers than the PlayStation 5 currently does. Not only that, 2020 was also near the start of the covid-19 pandemic, which saw a massive boom for the gaming industry as people were forced to stay at home during lockdowns, leading to more games being bought and played. Ghost of Yotei could build on the existing franchise, while selling for $70 or $10 more from the original base Ghost of Tsushima price point. It's clear that this hot start is likely just the beginning, as expected Ghost of Yotei will follow suit and launch on PC sometime in the near future, perhaps on the game's first anniversary with PC-specific upgrades as well.
Of course, many comparisons have been made between both games, likely due to the similar settings in Fuedal Japan, although Yotei takes place over 300 years in the future in a completely new location and with a completely different protagonist. Sucker Punch even added to the discourse ahead of the game's 2025 launch as Sucker Punch studio head Brian Fleming confirmed that Ghost of YoteiThe budget was around $60 million, roughly the same as its predecessor. Compared to other AAA-style games, the budget is relatively small, which likely contributed to the game's profitability for both Sucker Punch and Sony.
