Genshin Impact has officially revealed Durin as a 5-star Pyro Sword character coming in version 6.2, kicking off the drop marketing for one of the most anticipated casts in Nod-Krai. While Version 6.2 does not come with a new map expansion for Genshin Impactthe update is expected to introduce two new playable characters: Durin and Jahoda. Both have made an appearance during Archon Quest, with Durin showing off his new model in version 6.1.
Thanks to some early leaks and datamining from the beta, players already have a good idea of Durin i Genshin Impact. From a gameplay standpoint, he's meant to be a 5-star Pyro Support, offering damage buff or elemental shred to various Pyro reactions depending on his current form. These forms make Durin either an on-field driver for Vaporize and Melt teams, or an off-field damage dealer for Burning, Overload, Pyro Swirl and Pyro Crystalize teams.

Genshin Impact shared an initial overview of Durin on October 24, 2025, but his story has been a long time coming. In version 1.2, Genshin Impact players found Durin's skeleton on Dragonspine. Version 4.8 introduced Simulanka's version of Durin, and finally, version 5.6 tied these two storylines together, essentially giving Durin a second chance at life. While it remains to be seen how Durin will fit in with the other Nod-Krai characters in the Genshin Impactit is safe to assume that he will have synergy with the members of the Hexencircle.
Version 6.2 introduces a faction system to its gameplay with the debut of Durin. Namely, characters affiliated with Hexenzirkel or Durin will receive special buffs as long as they share a teammate from that faction. As of version 6.2, the list of Hexenzirkel characters includes: Venti, Albedo, Mona, Klee, Durin, Sakkaros, Razor, and Fischl. Also, version 6.2 is expected to be older Genshin Impact characters like Albedo and Venti, unlocking new playstyles and even giving the Anemo Archon a new signature weapon.
While the faction system may prove controversial in the coming months, so far beta players have been happy with the buffs provided to 5-star and 4-star icons like Fischl and Albedo. It remains to be seen Genshin Impact will use this system to improve other characters with outdated ability kits. An important thing to keep in mind is that Durin will almost certainly be one of Varka's best teammates, as not only Varka in Genshin Impact be a Hexenzirkel member, but he will also be able to make use of Durin's Pyro Swirl buff. Version 6.2 is expected to be released on December 3, 2025.
