Hoyoverse has announced that Genshin Impact will no longer be supported on Playstation 4, and the game will be removed. The announcement came just a few hours ago on the Hoyolab website. The main reason for this is the limited capacity of the last gene console and platform application size. The game will still be available and supported on PS5.
From September 10, 2025, you can no longer find or download Genshin Impact on Playstation 4. After almost five years since it was released, players must move to another platform if they want to continue playing Genshin Impact. This marks another live -service game that no longer satisfies its player base.
Genshin impact is removed from PS4
“Thank you for your continued support and love for Genshin influence on PS4,” said the statemant of Hoyoverse. “Due to restrictions related to hardware performance and platform program size, we will cancel support and updates for Genshin impact on PS4 in future versions.”
“Removal and interruption plan for Genshin effect on PS4 will be implemented in three phases: Removal of games, purchases in the game and end of update support. See the detailed schedule below.” The statement also revealed that PS4 players will be able to transfer their progress to PS5. Those who have the game on PS4 will still be able to play until April 8, 2026, after which they will not be able to log in to the game.
As you can expect, society is completely lively about this decision and the blur. Many have called the decision “disgusting” and even said that it is a “middle finger” for Genshin Impact Community, who has supported the game all these years. While others understood the need to move on from PS4, they said that Devs could have given it a little more time.
PS4 was launched in 2013 and Genshin effect 2020. Given these dates and leaves the console behind to improve the Live Service game is the right call. But Hoyoverse could have handled it with much more care, which gave players a little more lead time and announced it in a much better way.
