Genshin Impact could be using your voice chat to train AI models

Genshin Impact's privacy policy states that voice communications may be used to train AI models. The policy was last updated on January 14, 2026, where the previous clause was amended. As spotted by Cevian at Bluesky (via Eurogamer ), the new clause comes under the “Why collect and process your personal data” section of the policy.

“Where applicable, our Services may offer voice-based chat features that allow users to communicate with others in real time using voice,” the earlier clause said. “If you choose to use such features, we may process voice communications data for the purposes described in Section 2 and Section 13 of this Privacy Policy, including providing communications services, maintaining the security and stability of the Service, content moderation, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.” It has changed since then.

Genshin Impact can use your voice to train the AI

“Like many AI-powered experiences, we may use your user-generated input as chat data to train and improve the model we use to provide our services. You can opt out of model training at any time in your service-related settings. Opting out will not affect your existing gameplay,” the new clause says.

That's a pretty big change to the privacy policy, and MiHoYo has done it very quietly. In fact, comments on Cevian's post noted that someone tried to bring this up on the Genshin Impact subreddit, only to have their post deleted by the moderators.

I regret how I played Genshin Impact

Diluc, Beidou, Kaeya and Barbara can handle almost anything – but what do I do about the few things they can't…?

As for what AI trained on voice communication will do, it won't necessarily be harmful. Perhaps the AI will be trained to moderate player chat and automatically report toxic behavior, as mentioned in episodes 2 and 13. Still, it's worth making a bigger announcement about something like this, given the current feeling of AI being incorporated into the industry.
