Fullmetal Alchemist: 10 Strongest Villains, Ranked

It may be true that the current levels in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is tame compared to what shonen anime fans have seen the likes of Naruto or My Hero Academiabut the villains in the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood are still terrifying threats. They also benefit from some ingenious design to make the most of their limited power levels in the grand scheme of things. These antagonists, mostly homunculi, are finely written to terrorize their human enemies throughout Amestris.

Considering how these villains often go up against mere soldiers with rifles or regular government alchemists, it's easy to see how envy and greed only need a supernatural weapon and a Philosopher's Stone to wreak havoc. That helps Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhoods villains are cunning enough to use ambushes or fight battles on their own terms to appear even stronger than they really are, all in favor of Father's plans.

Gluttony is more useful to his strong senses

Due to his clumsy fighting style, the Starving Glutton is the weakest of the most powerful villains in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. He does have an ace in the hole via his chest's fake Portal of Truth, which absorbed Ed, Ling, and Envy at once, but even that doesn't allow Gluttony to compete with the strongest villains.

Gluttony managed to die twice in the anime, the first time by having his Philosopher's Stone worn out. The second time, Pride got fed up with Gluttony and ate him to get his strong sense of smell. That's Gluttony's true strength, and it can be useful, but it still doesn't make him a powerhouse.

Unlike brutal fighters like Gluttony and Sloth, Lust is an anime killer who prefers precision and surprise when fighting. However, her arsenal of tricks is somewhat limited, and Lust can be defeated if characters like Colonel Roy Mustang come up with the right countermeasures. If Lust's best trick doesn't work the first time, then she's in a tough spot.

Aside from some moderate leadership among the homunculi, Lust has two main assets on her side: seduction and the Ultimate Spear. The former is how Lust tricks people, often men, into letting their guard down or telling her things they shouldn't. The Ultimate Spear is Lust's offensive weapon, extending her fingers to stab through anything.

Sloth boasted incredible speed but rarely used it

Not unlike his homunculus brother Gluttony, Sloth is a slob who tends to telegraph what he's doing. That said, Sloth is more effective than Gluttony in combat because his best weapon is even better than Gluttony's own. When he pushes himself, Sloth can move with astonishing speed, as seen during the Battle of the Promised Day.

What's more, Sloth may lack Wrath's vicious bloodlust, but is still braver and more committed to battle than Gluttony is. Regardless of his reluctance to exert himself, Sloth can be quite cold-blooded and lacks Gluttony's playfulness or fear on the battlefield. But Sloth lacks subtlety or tricks, so his smart enemies can bypass his strengths and take him down.

Envy gains hope from his enemies with Shapeshifting

Envy is one of several formidable ones Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood villains who rely on both clever tricks and sheer superhuman strength to fight on Dad's behalf. Like Lust, Envy often tricks people into stealing information or tricking people into letting their guard down, but Envy is even better at it. Being a shapeshifter, Envy can fool anyone, not just men looking for a date.

Envy's shapeshifting is effective for sabotage, espionage, and even psychological warfare, as seen when he mentally crushed Maes Hughes with his two disguises. In terms of physical combat, Envy is moderately effective with his many animal-like or bladed manifestations, not to mention his giant lizard form. Enemies like Roy Mustang, however, only see this shapeshifter's giant form as a bigger, easier target.

Greed surpasses its enemies with the ultimate shield

Greed made its debut in the sewers of Dublith as the wielder of Ultimate Shield, the equivalent of Ultimate Spear and Ultimate Eye. Remarkably, Greed's ability to harden his skin with carbon atoms is an offensive and defensive tool in one package, dodging enemy attacks while shredding his targets with diamond-hard claws.

Greed is also quite the martial artist, able to stand up to Edward Elric and Izumi Curtis, all with the benefit of his head-to-toe Ultimate Shield. To top things off, Greed can jump and run with admirable agility and speed, which was seen during his rampage on the promised day as a redeemed anti-hero in Ling Yao's body.

Solf J. Kimblee can level entire city blocks with his alchemy

Armed with the power of various Philosopher's Stones that he both accepted and stole, Solf J. Kimblee became a total terror to both civilian and military enemies at all times Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. He was one of the most devastating and sadistic state alchemists during the Ishval Civil War thanks to his incredible explosion alchemy.

Kimblee also used his ruthless ways to exploit Edward Elric's mercy in the northern mining town, evidence of Kimblee's expert mind games, along with his advanced tracking skills. No one can outrun or outwit Kimblee for long, so it takes extraordinary measures to stop him. An alternative is melee, an arena where Kimblee is somewhat lacking.

The Ice Whale Avenger Scar wasn't always a villain in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhoodbut he held that role long enough to earn a place among anime's most dangerous antagonists. First, Scar is one of the most physically gifted characters, human or homunculus, with his powerful build and honed combat skills.

Scar's right arm is loaded with his alchemist brother's tattoos, allowing Scar to destroy almost anything at close range, from flesh to streets to walls and more. That ability pairs perfectly with Scar's talents in close combat, and in emergencies Scar will tear up the ground to cover his escape. It's a winning combination that allowed Scar to kill many government alchemists until the heroes finally caught him.

Wrath dominates the battlefield with deadly blade attacks

Wrath is a deadly anime swordsman with his use of the Ultimate Eye, a ruthless attitude and years of experience in the battlefield. Normally, Wrath commands Amestris' military as King Bradley, but if he has to get his hands dirty, carnage will follow. Without the benefit of his supernatural left eye, Wrath is quite dangerous with his sabers, and with Ultimate Eyes, virtually no one can stop him.

Wrath's cold precision and vicious tactics ensure he can defeat any enemy in front of him, even overcoming the likes of Greed's Ultimate Shield and constant regeneration. Notably, Wrath's own Philosopher's Stone is too weak to regenerate his flesh, making him the most fragile homunculus, but that hardly matters if no one can take him down.

Pride combines the talents of his six siblings in one package

Pride could only be destroyed from within

Among all of Father's creations, Pride is the oldest and most dangerous, as he is more like six homunculus rolled into one. His most distinguishing feature is his shadowy body covered in eyes and mouths, but otherwise he is an amalgamation of the other homunculi. He has Sloth's speed, Greed's durability, and Lust's piercing abilities, among other talents.

Pride's body, either the shadow body or the Selim Bradley container, cannot be destroyed by physical force, a real conundrum for any of Edward Elric's team. Even Van Hohenheim could only contain Pride, not destroy him. In the end, Ed only defeated Pride when he transformed himself into a Philosopher's Stone to fight Pride's soul one-on-one.

The Father destroyed almost all of Amestris as a would-be God

The single most terrifying villain of all Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is also the most important thing, being a father himself. He's come a long way since his days as that little homunculus in Xerxes, and now he's a Hohenheim-like humanoid with titanic alchemy powers. Among other abilities, Father can transform massive amounts of matter without even moving, and he can also create matter out of thin air.

Such is the power of Father's enormous Philosopher's Stone, which consists of approximately 500,000 souls for uninterrupted power. Later, during the peak of the Promised Day, Father became nearly invincible as a younger version of himself who could create suns and deflect an army's attacks with his barrier. It took non-stop attacks and the sabotage of greed for Father to finally be put down, and even then it was close.
