Fortnite is adding special April Fools' Day content, but there's a big catch

Fortnite has had an inconsistent relationship with April Fools in the past, shedding skin like Diamond Hanz a few years and then limiting other years' festivities to a simple social media joke. Fortunately, 2026 is more like the last in the sense that Epic Games is adding meaningful content to Fortnite on the day of the year that every trickster looks forward to… but the downside is that said content is literally only available for April Fools.

The first gag for April Fools' Day is a video game classic: big head mode. Fortnites many humanoid skins will feature massive skulls until April 2nd rolls around, looking as silly as you'd expect. Excitingly, IGN shared that Epic Games struggled to implement an enlarged head for Peely, the humanoid banana that has become an integral part of the brand. While this makes sense given his elongated body and pointy head, there are many Peely skins in the game. So to make sure Peely users can get in on the fun, Epic has thrown a Cuddle Team Leader mask on top of the banana's head and enlarged that mask instead of Peely's face.

April Fools' Day content like the Big Head skin is not only available in the main Battle Royale mode, but also Reload and Blitz Royale.

Big Head Mode is just one piece of Fortnite's April puzzle

While a simple Big Head gag would suffice for many games, those hoping for Fortnite to go beyond is lucky. Not just do FortniteThe characters flaunt large heads at the moment, but people can create moving piles of bodies by stacking large-headed character models on top of each other. As shown by Twitter users and common source of Fortnite delicious, @HYPEX, the stacking process is as simple as using a limited time emote and having another player join. The first player to jump on will grab the user's hand on the bottom of the pillar for a boost, while each player that jumps on afterwards simply jumps onto the top of the stack.

To see a tower of players looming over a hill on Fortnite's Island is sure to get a laugh out of anyone playing the game today, and the gags keep coming thanks to a limited-time weapon that players can pick up on their travels: the finger gun. These work exactly as you'd expect, with players simply gesturing at their enemies with their hands to deal damage. Another gag sees Fortnites iconic llamas are made rideable, while the final joke is the removal of fall damage in favor of a silly beep. All of this comes together to make for a fun time, and a less frustrating way to spend April Fools' Day for those tired of being fooled.

Enjoy Fortnite's April Fools content while you can

With a time limit of 24 hours, Fortnite players need to act fast if they want to fire off some finger guns, create a human tower with their friends, or jump off some ridiculously high ledges without being penalized for it. The April fools Fortnite the content is live as of now to 5:30 a.m. EST on April 2so as entertaining as it is, it's also extremely short-lived. Perhaps these elements will be added to Fortnite Creative at some point for talented members of the game's community to play with, but since it's just as possible for them to be one and done, players should enjoy them while they can.

With other live service games such as Monitoring Nailing April Updates and being celebrated for it, this is hopefully the start of a new era for Epic Games. April Fools' Day 2026 seems particularly good for Fortnite fans, and if all goes well, maybe next year will be even better.
