First details on Story DLC, Mercenaries Mode [EXCLUSIVE]

[UPDATE: THIS ARTICLE WAS PUBLISHED APRIL 1. HAPPY APRIL FOOLS’ DAY!]

While Resident Evil Requiem players can still get through repeated playthroughs of the game, they should start preparing for new content coming in September 2026. GameRant can exclusively confirm the first details for Resident Evil Requiem: Last Daysthe first major story DLC featuring Ada Wong and Alyssa Ashcroft, along with the game's Mercenaries multiplayer mode. The latter does something never seen before in the franchise, let alone the industry, at least according to Capcom.

Future Resident Evil Requiem updates could set the scene for September, although anything before them is officially unrelated to the DLC content. Sources suggest a new minigame will arrive before September, as well as a new photo mode addition to make zombies look a little more like overcooked tofu. Regardless, Capcom sources have confirmed that Last Days and the new Mercenaries mode will be released in September and also serve as the next “major update” to the franchise.

Resident Evil Requiem's DLC Details: Story and Mercenaries

Last Days takes place a few weeks after Resident Evil Requiemand it retains Grace and Leon's dynamic play. In this Resident Evil Requiem DLC, Leon has decided to retire from the Division of Security Operations (DSO) but accepts one last job, which means he sets foot back in Raccoon City for the very last time. This turns out to be a trap involving The Connections, who have targeted his home and his hitherto unseen and undiscovered wife: Patricia. He turns to his trusted partner in crime, Ada Wong, as he tries to save Patricia and uncover the connections between The Connections. Meanwhile, Grace has discovered a diary left behind by her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, which has connections to The Connections. As players explore the present danger with Leon and Grace, they will also explore the past via Alyssa and a surprise playable character, Zeno.

Alongside this story comes the DLC release Resident Evil Requiems Mercenaries Mode, known to fans as the survival wave it has evolved into over the years. According to Capcom sources, Resident Evil Requiems Mercenaries Mode will be the “logical evolution” of such a mode. It will no longer be linked to the base game and will be launched as a free-to-play extraction game with merc-like features. Players can take control of Leon, Gideon, Zeno, Mr. X and several others as they battle waves of enemies – and try to escape before they're targeted by Merclist, a real-time bounty website that posts threats to mourners, casters and, in some cases, people who just happen to sneeze out loud while playing. Official support for Merclist has been confirmed, but exactly how this intersects with in-game morality or taxation remains unclear.

In addition to that, the story DLC will include a mini-game that will give players a chance to change Leon's fate, as nasty as that sounds. Apparently, there will be a chance to replace Patricia with any loved one Resident Evil character, such as Ada Wong, Claire Redfield, Ashley Graham, Helena Harper, Chris Redfield or Mr. X (to name just a few), when players try to romance Leon away from his beloved wife Patricia. It is implied that something is off or wrong with Patricia, leading to some fan theories that she is a Mold entity like Ethan Winters.

Finally, I asked my Capcom source (who was dropped behind some trash when we openly discussed plans for Resident Evil) about Chris Redfield and if he received any story content. He said “mission accomplished” and disappeared, ensuring that Chris Redfield remains missing. Do with it what you will.
