Final Fantasy 9 remains one of Square Enix's most beloved poster, thanks to its heartfelt tone, distinct art style and delightful characters. With this year that marks the 25th anniversary, the game has returned to the limelight. A memorial website was recently launched with updated character artwork from Toshiyuki Itahana, a collection of new goods and a festive video, all reminds long -lasting players why the game has endured.
What the fans did not get, however, was confirmation of the long rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake. Despite speculation online and rumors about development problems, the project has not been discontinued in public. Some insiders suggest that the game is still in production, although Square Enix has remained silent. If the remake is moving forward, the developers have a chance to re -educate underutilized sets. One of the best candidates: Hunting Festival in Lindblum.

8 Reasons Final Fantasy 9 should be Square Enix next remake
When Final Fantasy 7 -Ermake trilogy is complete, Square Enix should turn attention to FF9.
Final Fantasy 9's Hunting Festival needs more options
Lindblum Hunting Festival is a great moment in early play Final Fantasy 9Give players a break from the main story to focus on a local tradition. Participants compete to defeat monsters all over the city to get points and win a prize. Although Zidane is the main playable character during the event, both Freya and Vivi also participate in the festival. However, players may not directly check their actions or see their side of the event if it does not cross Zidans.
One exception occurs if the player chooses not to disturb when Freya goes after Zaghnol. If Zidane goes back, she defeats it alone and wins the festival. It is a nice twist, but it also emphasizes a missed opportunity. Remake can expand this event to a completely playable multi-character sequence. Players can choose which character to play as or even switch between Zidane, Freya and Vivi.
Unlike other mini games in Final fantasy Series, such as Blitzball or Triple Triad, The Hunting Festival are narrative-driven and quick to complete, making it easier to improve without exaggerating their welcome.
A future version can also give each character different goals or monster types. For example, Vivi can focus on controlling black belly style magic at a distance, avoiding larger animals but getting more points through smart use of magic formulas. Freya, with her dragoon abilities, was able to focus on verticality and skip buildings to hunt down flying enemies.
Final Fantasy 9 Team Mechanics could deepen the competition
Team-ups are extremely limited in the original event. Outside the optional Freya-Zidane meeting against Zaghnol, the event is a solo business. A new recording can think about the rules and enable spontaneous team-ups or rivalry. Signs can determine the middle of the event to temporarily work together, share points based on performance or even steal the last battle apart.
A modern version may contain dynamic choices in the game: Zidane can help Vivi from a tough fight, or players can choose to sabotage Freya to ensure their victory. The efforts would be higher than just the price from Regent Cid, a Final fantasy Stacks character names. It can affect later history elections or interpersonal relationships. This type of consequence would fit naturally with the game's already strong character dynamics.
Even something as simple as contextual dialogue changes or affection -based systems can deepen the event. If Zidane collaborates with Vivi and shows kindness, Vivi may speak differently later. If Freya dominates the field and receives support, her confidence may be reflected more strongly in later cuts.
FF9's hunting festival deserves a modern design philosophy
While nostalgia makes the hunting festival memorable, its design is limited by the hardware and extent of its time. A Final Fantasy 9 Remake (as long as it is still in production) can keep the premise intact but bring it up to modern standards. With more complex AI, better tracking systems and seamless map transitions, the city of Lindblum can become a reactive arena.
Players could be chased creatures over roofs, in tunnels or even protect citizens while receiving bonus points. Timed challenges or developing conditions (such as a thunderstorm that suddenly changes visibility or braking movement) can change the strategy. This would not only improve the festival as a mini -game but make it feel more like a real event in a living city.
Thematically, giving more agency to Freya and Vivi in line with the game's emotional beats. Vivi struggles with his identity and mortality, while Freya handles heart damage and lost glory. Letting them stick out in a public event would add small but meaningful moments to their bows. It's not about giving them victories, but about giving them presence. Here, fans hope not only to hear good news about the remake soon, but that such memorable events are recreated with care.
